Senior Manager — Enterprise Credit Data Strategy, Commercial Business

 

Description

The Enterprise Credit Data Strategy team, in Credit and Fraud Risk Management is responsible for optimizing risk decisions through the lifecycle by identifying, testing and integrating internal data with  external data assets. The team also manages data, strategy, and relationships with key third party data providers and  contribution policy with external data partners (including credit bureaus) to support risk products in new accounts, customer management, and collection practices. The team also serves as a critical channel for the exploration of new data opportunities for the firm.

The Senior Manager will be part of the Global Commercial Credit Data Strategy team dedicated to helping American Express leverage data and services to drive innovative solutions to business challenges. Successful candidates will:

  • Drive commercial credit data strategy across the customer lifecycle through structured and risk-based principles
  • Manage and measure data quality, coverage and freshness
  • Explore traditional and alternative commercial credit and fraud data/services
  • Work closely with Risk Strategy, Modeling, Capabilities, Compliance, Operations, and Business partners to manage and govern third party data strategy
  • Manage third party relationships
  • Develop policies and strategies that optimize performance of the third party systems and data
  • Be responsible for data mining, analytics, research, and capabilities development supporting regulated data (e.g. credit bureau information) and non-regulated data (e.g. aggregated or vertically compiled) to support Change Management, Operational Risk Events, and Strategic Decisions
  • Develop metrics and MIS to deliver strong controls and insights available from the data
  • Have consultative skills able to work in a dynamic cross functional environment
  • Engage with senior leadership within American Express
  • Engage with partner organizations to discuss new data opportunities and enhance existing data exchange processes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating existing and new data sources to identify opportunities for customized and optimized data solutions that address business needs
  • Managing a portfolio of new and existing data partners - this includes performing tests to validate data value and driving vendor comparisons for risk management life cycle usage
  • Actively managing third party match and other record discrepancies to improve quality of information/content exchange
  • Developing and executing periodic quality control procedures to drive data integrity processes over data capabilities
  • Driving data quality, information integrity, and MIS initiatives that support the enhancement of credit bureau data
  • Leading complex projects which involve multiple internal and external parties
  • Supporting executive level Cardmember data inquiries, research and investigations
  • Negotiating complex contracts with external data vendors
  • Partnering with our compliance organization to ensure all new developments are acceptable within the legal and regulatory framework of Credit Bureau reporting and credit monitoring

 

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field and understanding of retail commercial credit
  • 5+ years of credit, operational risk, risk management, information management, or related work experience
  • Strong technical skills to perform data evaluation, analytics, and matrices tracking/reporting
  • Efficient in Python, SQL, Spark, SAS, and familiar with big data and cloud environments
  • Superior process, project and relationship management skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work under tight deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate project scope in documentation and presentation format.
  • Awareness of key consumer protection regulations within a Bank Holding Company environment
  • Working knowledge of Credit Card business, Risk and Financial Management platforms is desired
