This role is part of the Global Commercial Services Tech (GCS T) Product Delivery & Integration leadership team and will focus on leading the E2E Technology teams to deliver critical initiatives for GCS, with a focus on Compliance and Regulatory initiatives.

The Product Delivery & Integration team is responsible for implementing and supporting systems for the Commercial products in the US. We are seeking a Technical Project Manager with a strong technology background to join our team in New York. You will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating strategic new product launches from definition through implementation.

Within this role, you will be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial team responsible for enhancing and supporting multiple cross platform programs. You will also play a key role in partnering with Business, Product and Technology colleagues to drive strategic priorities. Our team follows agile methodology and uses the latest distributed development technologies to design, build, test and support software that meets the needs of the business and improve upon it through operational ownership.

You will work in partnership with Product Owners, Engineers, Scrum Masters, Release Train Engineers and Testing (QA) leads and the core and extended team to build and prioritize the product backlog. Responsible for tracking iteration progress, actively adding to design discussions, issue resolution and removing obstacles to ensure sprint/iteration commitments are met. You will oversee execution of cross-functional development projects from initiation through release, utilizing SDLC methodologies and leveraging Agile/Scrum concepts and principles where appropriate.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Leading integrated teams to deliver solutions in support of key product initiatives /programs by working closely with product managers/owners, scrum masters, architects, developers, and QA teams
  • Working within and across business units to prioritize, plan, and execute the Technology development schedule for major product releases
  • Handling and tracking status, progress and other critical metrics in relation to the plan and publishes progress reports to senior partners
  • Assigning development resources to activities and monitoring progress and performance across resource channels
  • Maintaining release and dependency plans across American Express development teams, external partners and third parties
  • Actively identifying, managing and raising risks, issues, and changes tied to the product development initiatives
  • Pro-actively anticipating program/project(s) risks and issues and ensures that appropriate mitigation planning is in place to avoid compromising delivery.
  • Applying discretion on when to raise issues versus work through issues with the team
  • Resolving impediments precluding teams from making progress against plans and deadlines
  • Leveraging knowledge and understanding of solution arch, system integration and E2E data flow for Test Management, Test data preparation, Test execution and coordination with Test Engineers and QA Leads for impacted tech teams.
  • Ensuring deliverables across Technology teams are high-quality and clearly documented
  • Conducting Pre and Post PI Planning sessions, daily stand-ups, scrum of scrums and retrospectives at the end of each planned unit of work, with a focus on continuously learning from the past
  • Finding opportunities to embrace innovative technologies and processes
  • Ensures effective usage of change control procedures and processes to maintain control on scope, schedule and cost.
  • Contributes to continual process improvement or re-engineering activities.
  • Provides regular project status updates and reports to E2E Project team and reports to support GCS, project partners, and prepares artifacts for Project Steering committee / Executive update sessions. 
  • Position will be responsible for managing multiple priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

This high-energy Technical Project Manager should have:

  • 10+ years of IT experience with 5+ years of project/program management experience managing medium to large software development projects, with a consistent record of delivering winning product constructs
  • Deep understanding of all aspects of technical delivery with a demonstrated track record of increasing responsibility and ownership
  • Experience understanding technology solutions at an enterprise-level is helpful
  • Experience leading Agile, Scrum, or other rapid application development teams delivering extraordinary technology solutions on time
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills and an ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with third parties, development and product managers
  • Experience in clarifying objectives, dealing with ambiguity, advocating for simplification, influencing teams and being able to build your own path to navigate to solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and of taking pride in your delivery
  • Passion to enable business capabilities through innovation
  • Knowledge and working experience of Amex internal core platforms, systems and SORs is a plus
  • Use technical acumen to provide design alternatives and support team in technical issue resolution. 
  • Experience using Rally/JIRA agile delivery management platform is strongly desired.
  • Experience with object-oriented design and exposure across a variety of programming frameworks and platforms (JAVA, MapReduce, Python, SPARK, ML) is a plus.
  • Experience with web services and open API development, as well as SOA concepts, is a plus
  • BS or MS degree in computer science or equivalent working experience is preferred
  • PMI or equivalent project management certification is a plus
  • Scrum Master certification is a plus
  • Certification(s) in Scaled Agile Framework is a plus
