We are currently seeking a Senior Lawyer to join our team.

This position has lead responsibility for being the legal partner to the Global Commercial Services (GCS) business across EMEA. As a member of the General Counsel’s Organisation (GCO), you will also have the opportunity to lead projects and support global initiatives across the Company’s other businesses in the region.

As Senior Counsel you will advise GCS EMEA leadership, and contribute to the shaping and future strategy of the business. There is a focus on innovative and customer-focused solutions, and you will carry out in-depth and sophisticated regulatory analysis to enable the growth of the business and support the operational and compliance framework.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an accomplished lawyer to make a key contribution to an already successful business with an ambitious growth agenda. You will collaborate strategically with all levels of business and legal management and will work to drive consensus, provide thought leadership and exert influence in a cross-functional capacity and make appropriate recommendations to management. This position involves leading a small team of lawyers.

Core duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Build strong relationships and confidently provide executive and strategic level support to the GCS business team on legal and policy matters, business negotiations, product and service development, marketing services and programmes
  • Independently supporting negotiations and discussions with partners, including providing thought-leadership and strategic oversight to the contracts management team
  • Identifying issues that may impact the foundational legal analysis and product positioning as well as thoughtfully reconsider and reevaluate past positions
  • Partnering with GCO colleagues and government affairs to monitor external legal and regulatory developments for potential impact to business
  • Supporting governance and risk management practices and provide guidance on applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • Supporting Compliance with matters of legal interpretation and partner with the Compliance and Operational Risk (Excellence) functions to ensure control and compliance goals are achieved
  • Requesting, obtaining and finalising legal opinions/advice from outside counsel as needed and handle related budgets

Minimum Qualifications

  • Qualified to practice law in England and Wales, or a relevant European jurisdiction
  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate others to high levels of performance

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills as well as experience negotiating complex transactions will be required to ensure that the agreements stand the test of time and form a solid basis for good ongoing business relationships
  • Excellent issue-spotting and pragmatic problem-solving skills are required
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate others to high levels of performance
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Process-management skills - strong knowledge-management skills and ability to help identify and implement improvements in work process to enhance efficiency and productivity
