American Express is looking for a high-energy and passionate Senior Engineer in the Global Risk Technology (GRT) organization, specifically for Consumer Product Development. The GRT team develops and handles critical components and platforms for new products being launched to support the next generation of customers across market segments. Consumer Product Development is responsible for consumer lending products, new and refreshed co-brand products, and the features that make premium American Express card products. These mission-critical, growing, and highly transparent workstreams are responsible for a large portion of the revenue American Express generates.

This role is particularly exciting in that the team will develop a new lending platform that is location agnostic (global), works for on-card and off-card loans, and spans across consumer and commercial. We will build a true platform that will encapsulate business logic and inspire downstream teams to build fully generic APIs for maximum re-use. Join us and you could be a core part of this future, building the platforms that will position American Express for the future!

This team will be expected to work to advance modernization efforts in partnership with multiple downstream teams such as Accounts Receivable, Global Onboarding Orchestration, and Servicing, while delivering against application and product roadmaps.

This role requires inspiring leader and problem solver. This passionate customer advocate can articulate vision into action and champions modern thinking and technology. A keen understanding and appreciation for modern technology, distributed systems, and resiliency – and the persistence to get every team there – is fundamental to success in this role.

  • Serve as core members of an agile team that drives user story analysis and elaboration, crafts and develops software applications, and tests and builds automation tools
  • Own all design aspects of software development for assigned applications; performing hands-on architecture, design, and development of systems
  • Software development and testing, typically spending about 50% of time writing code, and the rest of the time developing API specs, conducting code reviews, educating other specialists, and doing proof of concepts/automation tools
  • Drive consistent development practices, tools, and common components
  • Develop deep understanding of tie-ins with other systems and platforms, and supporting those teams on their own modernization journeys
  • Find opportunities to embrace new technologies to tackle existing needs and predicting future challenges
  • Mentor Engineers and may have management responsibilities over 2-3 Engineers
  • Collaborate with the multi-functional teams to identify the opportunities for improvements and optimizations

Minimum Qualifications

This high energy Senior Engineer must have:
