American Express commercial lending technology team delivers lending products small and medium enterprises.  This Inner Source enabled team works in a fast-paced Agile methodology using Java, Spring Boot, Javascript, React JS and Rest APIs. The team is looking for a passionate engineer to join and augment skills of the team.  
 

You will work closely with Product owners and User Experience teams to understand the requirements and deliver product that meets these requirements. Testing (Unit, functional TDD/BDD), CICD and automation are the key guidepost for this team.  You will be challenged with identifying innovative and transformative ideas and proof of concept to deliver against the existing and future needs of our customers. You will need to learn larger American Express environments to understand the technical and process dependencies to manage them effectively.

 Focus:

Contributes to design, development, troubleshooting, debugging, evaluating, modifying, deploying, and documenting software and systems that meet the needs of customer-facing applications, business applications, and/or internal end user applications.

Organizational Context:

Entry-level hire, member of a product engineering or delivery and integration team reporting to a Senior Engineer, Engineering Director or Director Product Delivery & Integration.

  • Beginner level ability in software development, such coding assignments
  • Function as member of an agile team by contributing to software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation)

  • Participate in code reviews and automated testing
  • Debug basic software components and identify code defects for remediation
  • Enable the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments
  • Automate deployments in test or production environments

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Up to 4 years of software development experience in a professional environment and/or comparable experience such as:

  • 2 to 4 years of Full Stack engineering experience using Javascript, ReactJS, Java, Spring Boot, Rest API in a professional environment with distributed (multi-tiered) systems
  • Familiar with Agile or other rapid application development methods
  • Experience with design and coding across one or more platforms and languages as appropriate
  • Hands-on expertise with application design, software development and automated testing
  • Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases
  • Confirmed experience with object-oriented design and coding with variety of languages
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related experience required; advanced degree preferred
