The National Client Group within Merchant Services – U.S., is responsible of overseeing the largest and most strategic U.S. – based merchants.  Our mission is to be warmly welcomed by merchants, and help them grow.  B2B is a critical priority for the Global Merchant Services business, and American Express, and this role offers a prime opportunity to be part of a strategic growth industry at American Express.



The Sr. Manager is a member of the B2B National Client Group team and will be responsible for elevating their portfolio by leveraging strong relationship management, consultative selling, strategic thinking and innovation skills to deliver incremental spend with American Express.  This position is geared towards high performing individuals with proven success working across matrixed, cross-functional environments. This is a unique and high-profile opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager to oversee a portfolio of B2B clients in NCG. The incumbent will focus on establishing, maintaining and growing long-lasting and mutually beneficial merchant relationships to further grow American Express share, identify new business opportunities and enhance merchant satisfaction.

Sr. Manager’s Business Mandate:

  • Bring a strategic approach to  driving charge volume growth, revenue and profitability while analyzing and assessing your merchants’ businesses, GMS and the overnight mail industry
  • Concurrently, increase spend on American Express products through cross-sell and  innovative partnership opportunities via creation of profitable deal constructs, value levers, and pricing scenarios
  • Key results will include:
    • Measureable new revenue growth
    • NPS
  • Specific Responsibilities include:

    • Own thought strategy on growing and servicing portfolio of approximately 10 accounts – develop and execute client portfolio roadmap to drive growth

    ·        Increase spend on American Express products through innovative marketing and internal partnership opportunities with Global Commercial Payments  through creation of profitable deal constructs, value levers and intricate pricing scenarios

    ·        Consult with merchants on how to capitalize on the fast-paced evolving payments environment

    ·        Safeguard the merchant’s relationship across all aspects of American Express -  be a driving force on ensuring merchants’ premium experience

    • Cultivate and leverage relationships with across the Blue box to identify and implement solutions to create net new Charge Volume  and expand share within the accounts – work on daily basis with Sales and AD teams to bring new buyer opportunities to your Merchants/Suppliers
    • Expand our reach within each account – Establish rich relationships across the Merchant’s departments and simultaneously drive new acceptance for American Express products 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Marketing with professional experience
  • Excellent organization and project management skills with capacity to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously is a must have
  • Experienced relationship manager with proven ability to develop strong client relationships, sell-in programs, drive initiatives and uncover new opportunities to grow revenue and share
  • Executive presence with ability to lead and senior/C-level discussions with clients
  • Excellent influence management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across a wide variety of external and internal partners
  • Strong skills for building and leading sell in presentations
  • Highly developed communication skills with ability to tailor messages to different audience types internally and externally
  • Demonstrated analytical and creative problem solving skills and proven financial acumen
  • Strong driver of results with both strategic thinking and tactical execution skills
  • Knowledge of B2B payments landscape and experience developing B2B marketing promotions a plus
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and self-starting team player with an ability to have fun
  • MBA preferred but not Required

Position will be Full Time and based in New York
