American Express Personal Savings is an online direct bank that offers FDIC-insured High-Yield Savings Accounts and Certificates of Deposit directly to consumers. The business, which was launched in mid-2009, has rapidly grown to over $30BN of direct deposits, and remains a critical component of American Express’ strategy to develop stable, diversified sources of funding for the company’s businesses. The Personal Savings Marketing team oversees all brand, acquisition, and loyalty marketing across multiple channels, including paid and organic search, display, paid social, affiliate, email, and direct mail.
The Senior Manager will own end-to-end email and direct mail channel management—including mail strategy, data/targeting strategy, partner management, and reporting & analytics for the email and direct mail channels.  These channels are crucial components of Personal Savings’ marketing programs, driving a significant portion of new applications and greater brand awareness annually. The Senior Manager will create a vision, strategy, and plan for and launch of all of the associated tactics to deliver Personal Savings’ growth and retention targets. This includes developing and evolving ad copy and creative, targeting strategy, and tracking and measurement capabilities to enable channel growth, investment efficiency, and measurement accuracy. The Senior Manager will manage one direct report and will serve as a primary relationship lead to both our agency and strategic partners.
This is a strategic, dynamic role that will enable the Senior Manager to advance her/his professional development across a broad set of knowledge areas including but not limited to: new channel development, email marketing, direct mail strategy and data strategy, management of strategic external and internal partnerships, and quantitative and qualitative decision making.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead email channel strategy and campaign execution, delivering deposit funding and retention goals through new customer acquisition and driving loyalty among existing customers.
  • Develop and lead the execution of the direct mail channel acquisition plan including targeting strategy, creative development, printing/production and results analytics.
  • Evolve targeting strategy to drive greater scale and efficiency, identifying opportunities to identify the most profitable customers and prospects.
  • Devise test plans to refine creative and targeting strategies.
  • Develop a clear understanding of the addressable market for prospective customers and provide recommendations on investment optimization across channels.
  • Maintain a pulse on competitive offers and strategies utilized in direct mail and email channels for acquisition and customer engagement benchmarking.
  • Manage relationships with agencies and key external partners for creative development and campaign delivery. 
  • Partner with key internal teams, including Digital Customer Experience, Information Management, Global Servicing Network, Legal, Compliance, and Privacy, to ensure strategic alignment and deliver a seamless customer & prospect experience while meeting all regulatory requirements.


  • At least four years of prior direct marketing experience required
  • A self-starter who is able to concurrently work on several complex projects and prioritize work; excellent project management and communication skills required
  • Highly strategic, analytical thinker with proven ability to identify new opportunities, translate ideas into actions, and drive results
  • Strong relationship-builder with proven ability to influence stakeholder groups including internal business partners and external agencies and vendors
  • Experience working with agencies to develop high impact creative assets
  • Fast learner with a passion for customer acquisition.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred
