American Express is hiring a Real Estate Relationship Leader & Strategist for its Global Real Estate & Workplace Enablement team in New York City.

The Real Estate Relationship Leader & Strategist, reports into the Global Real Estate & Workplace Enablement VP, RL Real Estate of North America.

Global Real Estate and Workplace Enablement is a staff group within the Global Business Services shared services function solely responsible for planning, procuring, designing, building, managing, redeploying and disposing of offices, field locations, and service center portfolio of owned and leased locations. The primary focus is delivering excellent workplace solutions and experiences for an Amex employee to do his/her best work.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Managing in region relationship for all lines of businesses relative to end to end real estate lifecycle experiences for all managed properties.
  • Develop requirements and demand forecasting of headcount and support key stakeholder discussions as part of a program definition.
  • Collaborate with Transaction Management to manage real estate transactions for the managed and field portfolio of properties in region --Includes the leasing and transaction management activities related to new leases, renewals, contraction and early terminations, new site selection and site closures.
  • Work with DCFM; Design and Construction and Facilities Management teams and their contracted resources to ensure projects and initiatives are executed according to plan and aligned BU expectations.
  • Collaborate with DCFM to plan and execute capital planning and deployment of projects
  • Heavy interface with internal customers and functional partners
  • Manage risk and ensure compliance and audit requirements are met for all region activities and locations.
  • Document and secure leadership approval through the Real Estate Execution Document (REED). AmEx uses third party brokers to procure and negotiate sites for strategic business unit use.
  • Supervises of third party management of the CB Richard Ellis who maintains the physical property locations of the managed portfolio.
  • Works closely with the GREWE DCFM team to establish the annual capital plan in coordination with business unit needs and building maintenance and design changes.
  • Manage 2 direct reports (Band 35 US Based)
  • Interact with Senior Leaders in major markets
  • Convey the GREWE strategy and resolve property related issues.
  • Deliver the strategic workplace known as BlueWork and execute other workplace strategies to maximize utilization of the current real estate footprint.
  • Ensure change management and communications for projects are coordinated and appropriately managed
  • Provide day to day leadership, direction and mentoring to regional relationship team
  • Play key role in the development of controls, audit and compliance, systems and processes that allow for optimal delivery of initiatives and priorities in region
  • Region leadership role in the planning of annual capital plan
  • Ensure project team complies with organization's scheduling, budgeting, and cost tracking requirements
  • Seek out and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies, project savings, and innovative solutions to enhance overall region real estate P&L impact
  • Ensure highest level of quality and consistency
  • Interface with BU, staff groups and service or third party service providers as appropriate


  • 10-12 years of relevant experience in Corporate Real Estate
  • Proven leader with real estate and relationship management background
  • Proven leader with real estate and relationship management background
  • Process oriented mindset with an “end-to-end” solutions oriented perspective
  • Excellent communications and influence management skills; collaborative style
  • Able to translate business requirements into project goals; finance background a plus
  • Comfortable working in multi-tasking environment with ambiguity and complex organization - Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality customer service and navigating complex organizations and leadership/ stakeholder groups
  • Business, Finance, Architecture, Engineering or Real Estate Development Management degree preferred with MBA and/or MCR designation a plus
