A vacancy exists for a strong Agile Lead Test Automation Engineer (or Software Developer in Test) within the FXIP team in American Express Bangalore. The successful candidate will join an existing agile development team building an exciting transformation of a financial platform involving both green field and brown field development.
 
This position suits someone who can hit the ground running, form good working relationships quickly and also add value by introducing best practice design and techniques learned elsewhere.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Ensure the development team’s software is design correctly & continually and automatically validated, and tested throughout the development lifecycle
  • Manage various test cycles from integration, acceptance, performance, regression to user acceptance testing and production environment evaluations prior to several production releases
  • Lead and manage a team of QA Engineers in designing and implementing quality processes and quality metrics for complex mission-critical financial systems
  • Facilitate the team’s ownership of the development code, process & change lifecycle, ensuring the platform is well maintained, issues are quickly resolved, and that its capabilities are continuously improved by the team as a whole through a consistent agile approach
  • Liaison with business, FXOPS & Product Delivery teams to ensure code is developed to requirements and help the team troubleshoot and resolve issues with design & implementation of new features
  • Drive adoption of agile practices and lean thinking throughout department Quality Engineers
  • Provides guidance and subject matter expertise to engineers on testing and Quality Assurance (QA) methodologies and processes
  • Driving quality deliverables through automation including tools, process, measurement, environment and data
  • Drive improvements in overall quality, automation and testing processes and techniques
  • Develops manual and automated test cases and configurations needed to meet testing of business requirements
  • Executes test cases/scripts to ensure delivery of quality software applications, including Systems Integration, Regression, and Performance Testing
  • Generates test data to support the requirements and test cases for various test phases
  • Involved in the review of the user story backlog and requirements specifications for completeness and weaknesses in function, performance, reliability, scalability, testability, usability, and security and compliance testing, and provides recommendations
  • Creates and executes acceptance criteria
  • Reviews progress and makes recommendations for areas of opportunities/improvements for automation & tool usage
  • Looks beyond the obvious for continuous improvement opportunities
  • Identifies opportunities to adopt innovative testing technologies and techniques

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Java EE programmer or QA Engineer
  • Good knowledge of Java & JEE, including Hibernate, Spring, Junit, Hamcest, mocking (JMock/Mokito), REST, Cucumber, Groovy, Headless browser testing such as PanthomJS or Chrome Headless
  • Testing automation tools/frameworks/patterns such as SoapUI, JMeter, Selenium WebDriver, page object, TestNG
  • Good knowledge in performance and security testing
  • Managed small to large teams
  • Previous experience in a financial environment (especially Foreign exchange & international payments) is preferable, although not essential
  • Experience in Technology, with an emphasis on QA, and proven ability in writing test cases, developing and running functional, automated and performance tests
  • Solid experience in test-driven development (TDD), behaviour-driven development (BDD), unit testing, functional testing, system integration testing, regression testing, GUI testing, web service testing, and browser compatibility testing
  • Knowledge of automated build / continuous integration platforms, especially Maven and Jenkins (Gradle, ANT, Hudson useful)
  • Experience of using the Atlassian product suite is preferable (e.g. JIRA, Confluence) or other Agile work item management tools (e.g. Rally)
  • Excellent spoken and written English, clear oral communication skills
  • Must be willing and able to express new ideas, concerns and opinions directly to wider team in team meetings via teleconference

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred
  • Any of the following test certifications - ISEB, ISTQB - are a plus
