Job Description

The USCS Customer New Accounts team – within the broader Consumer Credit Risk organization – is responsible for developing innovative solutions across underwriting processes that enable profitable growth, while maintaining industry-best credit outcomes.  The Manager/Senior Manager, USCS Customer New Accounts position will play a critical role in enhancing underwriting logic for different segments of existing customers across markets and lines of business, fortifying underwriting guardrails to manage credit exposure and volatility ahead of weakening in the economic environment, and driving strategy for acquiring new U.S. Consumer Lending and Charge Card accounts from the existing American Express customer base.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and enhance solutions and tools for underwriting existing customers
  • Perform segment-level deep-dive analyses on the installed American Express customer base and develop customized underwriting strategies for key segments
  • Assess and optimize the risk-return tradeoff for consumer cross-sell initiatives
  • Continuously monitor new account performance and implement credit controls to address emerging risks
  • Collaborate across Credit & Fraud Risk Management to align strategies across the customer lifecycle
  • Track developments in the marketplace to understand industry best practices
  • Partner with the Advanced Risk Capabilities, Risk Systems Innovation, and American Express Technologies teams to build new and transform existing underwriting capabilities
  • Partner with World Service and U.S. Consumer Services business unit teams to design and implement seamless new account on-boarding experiences
  • Work with internal governance teams and external regulators to ensure control and compliance

  • [Preferred] Advanced degree in statistics, econometrics, operations research, mathematics, data science, engineering, or a related quantitative field of study
  • [Preferred] Experience in underwriting or another core credit risk management function
  • [Preferred] Understanding of credit card economics and consumer payments
