Finance Manager, Lending, US Consumer Services (USCS) Finance
 
The USCS Lending team provides strategic and financial analysis to help develop the right products, lending capabilities, and customer treatments that grow our share of spend and lend in the marketplace. We achieve this goal through a broad set of activities, such as deep financial analysis of our existing cardmember base; analysis of the industry and specific competitors; and detailed financial sizing of new card products, product refreshes, lending capabilities, or customer treatments. Our team supports the Global Lending organization, and relies on strong cross-functional collaboration with the product, marketing, pricing, risk, and finance teams for the US Consumer Services business. This is a high visibility role with a focus on some of the most important initiatives in one of the largest and fastest growing segments of American Express.
 
Job Description
 
The candidate will provide decision support for the US Lending business.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners in Product, Marketing, Risk, Pricing, Finance and other functions
  • Develop a point of view on both the business and specific initiatives; effectively communicate complex ideas; and seek to influence and drive the strategy of the business
  • Own the end-to-end financial analysis of initiatives such as product launches / refreshes, new lending capabilities, organic growth initiatives, and profitability analyses of the portfolio
  • Develop and maintain deep understanding of the competitive environment, and our competitive positioning
  • Quickly and accurately model the financial outcomes of key cardmember behaviors using large account-level data sets
  • Work cross-functionally to source benchmarks or data for key assumptions; quickly learn relevant information and incorporate into analyses

Qualifications

  • Confidence to ask questions, develop a point of view, and voice an opinion in meetings with senior executives
  • Ability to articulate complex ideas with brevity, simplicity and impact
  • Natural strategic mindset or “business intuition” – ability to step back from the numbers and consider the analysis from multiple points of view
  • Strong understanding of card economics, with an emphasis on lending dynamics
  • Flexibility to function in a fast-paced environment, while bringing a positive energy to the team
  • Quantitatively oriented and very numerate – comfortable with thinking through the “quick math”
  • Ability to balance attention to detail and accuracy with tight deadlines
  • High level of proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • 4-6 years work experience
  • Experience with IDN, SQL and/or SAS preferred
  • MBA or related graduate degree preferred
