Job Description

American Express Travel Related Services Company seeks Directors, Strategic Planning Group to deliver complex strategic projects to drive growth and increase efficiency for American Express.  Drive all aspects of end-to-end project execution to meet and exceed client expectations, including defining project scope, structuring project work, leading teams in testing hypotheses, conducting research and analysis, and developing recommendations for improvement based on demonstrated thought leadership.  Facilitate strategic discussions on external trends, competitive insights, and potential disruptors, translating insights into strategic recommendations.  Collaborate with executive stakeholders across the enterprise to socialize recommendations, drive alignment, and gain executive sponsorship on key strategic issues.  Coach and develop junior staff, including managing performance evaluation process and feedback.


Position requires a Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field, followed by 3 years of management consulting experience in the financial services industry.  Experience must include a minimum of: 3 years of experience with utilizing strategic frameworks, including Porter’s Five Forces and Strategic Choice Cascade, to solve complex strategic and operational questions, and to develop robust solutions to drive revenue or operational efficiency; 3 years of experience with scoping and structuring projects that address key strategic imperatives; 3 years of program and project management experience with creating governance and reporting structures using MS Project, PowerPoint, and Excel, and managing scope and timelines to deliver projects for executive-level leadership; 3 years of experience with designing processes for cross-functional business areas, including sales, operations, marketing, finance, and risk functions, of financial services companies; 3 years of experience with structuring and facilitating executive-level discussions that drive key business decisions and impact financial performance or operational efficiency; 2 years of experience with managing teams, including leading, coaching, and conducting performance evaluations for professional staff; and 2 years of experience with analyzing organizational structures and designing effective operating models for use in strategic enterprise or business unit reengineering efforts.
