Focus
Contributes to designing, developing, troubleshooting, documenting, and presenting all data that meet the needs of business and/or internal customers
 
Organizational Context:
  • Entry-level position.
  • Member of a data management, reporting, and database development team

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collects, validates and compiles data from customers in manual and automated formats and enters into database for easy extraction
  • Extracts data into clear, comprehensive reporting for business customers
  • Reviews and documents data requirements / data stories with corresponding data sources
  • Supports management of data assets as per the enterprise standards, guidelines and policies
  • Reviews and understands the processing requirements inclusive of data, security, and performance requirements
  • Assists in building and enhancing the database design and infrastructure required to support the Business portfolio
  • Assists in performing report testing
  • Communicates and works collaboratively with business and product teams to support changes and implementation
  • Function as an active member of an agile team through consistent development practices (tools, components, and documentation)
  • Identifies opportunities to adopt innovative technologies
  • Takes part in reviews of own work or with colleagues
  • Work on prioritized/assigned features for ongoing sprints
Scope of Impact/Influence:
  • Accountable to team for completing assigned tasks and deliverables as agreed upon
  • Accountable to team for delivery of quality work
Education & Experience:
Up to 2 years of software development experience in a professional environment and/or comparable experience such as:
  • Understanding of Agile or other rapid application development methods
  • Exposure to methods relating to application and database design, development and automated testing
  • Understanding of Big data / SQL design
  • Good understanding and technical knowledge of DBMS products and ecosystem – e.g., storage formats, access algorithms, data management processes, administration, data maintenance, replication, high availability, encryption, etc.
  • General knowledge of distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational & non-relational databases
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field required
  • Keeps up-to-date on current research and technology in the industry
  • Understands technical aspects of the job and uses appropriate technology for the situation at hand
  • Tries new approaches when problem solving, seeking ideas, or suggestions from others as appropriate
  • Carries out systematic and rational analysis to identify the root cause of problems
  • Recognizes the importance of teamwork to achieve objectives
  • Is clear when explaining ideas and concepts to others, communication is structured and easy to understand
  • Manages multiple tasks effectively - progresses work in parallel

Knowledge/Skills:
  • Able to understand and leverage data structures and associated components
  • Able to understand and document business data requirements
  • Application of industry best practices, processes and standards
  • Has understanding of the basic tools used in the planning, analyzing, testing, and maintaining assigned application(s) (e.g., Tableau, Excel, Microstrategy, and Infomatica)
  • Able to participate in assigned team’s software delivery methodology (Agile, Scrum)
  • Familiar with infrastructure technologies and components like servers, databases, and networking concepts
  • Ability to communicate in business terms with more senior leaders (e.g., presentations, charts, graphs, illustrations, white-board designs)
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft office tools
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines with quality and accuracy
