About the team

American Express Global Commercial Services leverages a number of Corporate Cards, Central Bill, Foreign Currency, and Cross-border payment solutions to help corporations and SME customers drive savings, increase transparency, and offer employee rewards.

Job Description

You will be part of a high performing team responsible for leading a team to acquire new business relationships in Hong Kong targeting International Payments across medium to large enterprises. You do this by motivating the team to prospect through multiple channels; including telephone, field, and social media prospecting.    


You are tasked with developing sound sales strategies by positioning American Express’ best-in-class International Payment solutions to achieve your target.  You will be expected to build and progress a robust sales pipeline by developing a cross-border payment focused strategy and effectively managing a combination of self-generated and partnership leads.


To be successful in this role, you must be a driven, self-motivated individual with the tenacity to want to do well in a sales environment. Your prior experience in successfully leading a commercial sales team for new business through effective cold calling, market research and by leveraging social networking tools, as well as demonstrated relationship building skills will set you apart from other applicants. Industry knowledge, networking and being able to stay current on issues impacting customers will all contribute towards you reaching your goals. You will find yourself working within a fast-paced organization that is committed to investing in both your professional development and new products and solutions to support your success. The organization also places great emphasis on collaborative team spirit as you develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders including Marketing, Merchant Sales, Credit, and Implementation teams along the way.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Build a best-in-class commercial sales team by attracting and developing talented and motivated sales professionals
  • Support execution of the Global Commercial Services sales strategy in alignment with overall market growth objectives
  • Support the team to develop an in-depth understanding of prospective clients’ needs, building relationships with C-levels for success and influencing decision-making whilst developing an execution against strategic sales plans
  • Define acquisition sales strategies to generate new billings, win-to-trade, new booked volume and meet growth targets as a sales team.
  • Support pipeline development and manage cycle performance through robust reporting governance
  • Conduct in-field coaching and measure individual sales performance
  • Collaborate with Risk and Credit teams to minimize losses and drive profitable growth 


Experience and Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 4 – 6 year’s professional corporate sales experience, with the strategic and consultative selling and negotiation skills to sell to decision making level.  Excellent influencing and problem-solving skills with proven success leading a sales team
  • Prefer strong knowledge in either corporate card, trade finance, international finance or loans
  • Proven ability to ensure effective collaboration and see that key linkages with other business stakeholders are optimized
  • Highly customer-focused and results-oriented approach, with demonstrated thought leadership capacity
  • Demonstrated the ability to recruit, develop and retain sales talent
  • Knowledge of financial acumen is in advantage (financial statement analysis, cash flow)
  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills at all customer levels, with fluency in English and Cantonese.  Mandarin is value added.
