Job Description

American Express’s Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) group is looking for multilingual candidates with research, analytical, and writing skills to conduct investigations for a new team within the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). The FIU is responsible for managing processes that help ensure compliance with laws administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the Bank Secrecy and USA PATRIOT Acts. These processes require great research, analysis (of both transactional activity and demographic information), and writing to evaluate for violations including money laundering, terrorist financing, credit card fraud, identity theft, sanctioned parties and transactions, and other criminal activity.
The successful candidate will work to mitigate risk to the American Express enterprise through either the review of records or the research and analysis of financial activity for suspicious patterns. Candidates must be flexible and willing to change responsibilities to meet business needs, should be comfortable reading and reviewing records from non-U.S. jurisdictions, and be able to work with various teams across American Express, including international Market Compliance Officers, line of business representatives, and project teams, among others. 
Responsibilities May Include:
  • Reading records and using various tools to perform activity reviews
  • Performing research and analysis
  • Collaborating with lines of business and building relationships with strategic partners across the unit to ensure effective coordination of significant matters
  • Conducting time-sensitive, meticulous reviews of financial activity across multiple jurisdictions and countries, using a wide variety of research and analytical tools
  • Producing well-written reports detailing and analyzing potentially suspicious activity
  • Assisting with additional projects to aid various GFCC and non-U.S. teams 


  • A preference of at least one year of experience in a profession or volunteer effort requiring extensive research, writing, or data analysis
  • Demonstrated research and writing expertise, either through volunteer efforts, education or relevant work experience
  • Keen attention to detail in research, analysis and documentation
  • Proven ability to analyze large amounts of data in order to report critical information, including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Effective communication and excellent writing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple and varied projects simultaneously
  • Ideal candidates should be interested in reading, performing research, analyzing data and writing reports and be willing and able to handle new and varied work streams depending on business needs
  • High level of professionalism, flexibility, self-motivation and sense of urgency
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Bilingual in German

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
