Job Description

Global Merchant and Network Services (GMNS) is the merchant network of American Express which acquires and maintains relationships with millions of merchants around the world that welcome American Express cards.
 
We are now recruiting for a GMNS B2B Business Planner to join the Australia B2B Managed team. In this role, you will be working business planning across multiple industries to effectively manage the execution and tracking of B2B strategy across large acquisition and expansion opportunities.
 
Managing effectively sales pipeline management, development of the Business Unit monthly review decks, financial modelling & the tracking of Booked Charge Volume, DBV Expansion, Revenue & Discount Rate targets for the B2B segment. In addition, building solid relationships with key partners across GCS & GMS in supporting key partnership initiatives.
 
The successful applicant will be able to develop and deliver business planning skills, leveraging financial acumen combined with a solid understanding of merchant and industry value propositions within mid and large segments across all industries.
 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Monthly Business Unit Review (BUR) deck preparation, including strategic deck for senior leader presentations
  • Understanding of the principles of Financial modelling
  • Sales pipeline management
  • Tracking of BCV, DBV, Revenue and discount rate targets
  • Promote innovative thinking to challenge the status quo to identify growth opportunities
  • Demonstrate consultative engagement techniques and support the creation of B2B materials to clearly help articulate the American Express value to prospective merchants.
  • Understand the mechanics of working capital/risk pricing model from both a merchant and card member perspective.
  • Facilitate the set up of merchant facilities through direct interaction with payments consulting teams, as well as prospective merchant credit operations and accounts receivable teams.
  • Collaborate with American Express Issuers to secure and deliver robust marketing and Card Member engagement strategies that drive spend within newly acquired merchants.
  • Build and foster internal relationships with American Express Risk, Compliance, Pricing and General Counsel Team’s, as well as other internal American Express colleagues.

Qualifications

Skills required:
  • 3+ years’ experience in sales and business development.
  • Strong knowledge of or the ability to learn the merchant and card payments business.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to articulate a story
  • Promote constructive debate amongst team members with an answer
  • Proven track record in delivering results and meeting deadlines.
  • Solid financial and commercial acumen (understanding of cash flow, P&L) and have the ability to have a confident discussion with team members and partners.
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship building and communication skills, with proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ideally, university degree either of the following disciplines: Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business management, Marketing
  • Experience in developing and managing pipeline management.
  • Ability to articulate knowledge about products, services and B2B value proposition
