Job Description

Our organization has a temporary opportunity for a Tax Analyst within the Tax department.  In this position the incumbent will report to the Manager of Tax and will be responsible for ensuring that all companies are compliant with Canadian tax laws/regulations.
 
The Tax Analyst will be expected to develop strong relationships with financial management and staff throughout the organization by providing direct assistance when required.
 
Principle Accountabilities:
  • Assist with the transition of Canadian Tax accounting functions to Centre of Excellence including monthly, quarterly and yearly US GAAP provisions
  • Assist in preparation of IFRS tax accounting provision and notes to financial statements for 2018 year-end financial statements
  • Review uncertain tax positions, analysis of taxes payable accounts as well as other SOX related reporting requirements
  • Assist in the coordination of Canadian Tax Return Compliance with external tax provider
  • Reconciliation of Income Tax, Deferred Tax, Capital Tax and other tax account reconciliations and roll-forwards by entity on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with tax audits when appropriate and liaise with external auditors.
  • Assist in review of tax impact of accounting pronouncements and/or business transactions
  • Assist with transfer pricing compliance
  • Assist/prepare SOX-related documentation
  • Assist/prepare forecast of effective tax rate and deferred tax balances
  • Assist in other ad-hoc tax projects as required

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • University degree in a related field
  • US GAAP/IFRS knowledge
  • 2–4 years Canadian tax accounting experience
  • Knowledge of legislation and statutory requirements – i.e. IFRS, Income Tax Act
  • Experience in preparing or reviewing Canadian Corporate tax returns (Tax prep software)
  • Excellent organizational, multi –tasking, time management, interpersonal skills and problem solving skills
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Has initiative and a positive attitude
  • Reliable to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Research and information gathering skills
  • Strong Computer skills including Excel
 
The following would be an asset:
  • Completion of level 1 of the CICA In-Depth Tax Course
  • CMA or CGA designation is an asset not required
  •  Oracle knowledge
  •   CorpTax Software knowledge is an asset
