The Strategic Partnerships Center of Excellence (COE) manages and grows the most significant enterprise relationship across American Express. The Digital Partnerships team within the COE oversees American Express’ partnerships with Apple, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn and PayPal. The Director role will help drive the overall global strategy, lead key negotiations, identify new opportunities, work across the enterprise to deliver a single enterprise strategy and ultimately grow the revenue and strategic value of the partnerships.
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Continue to lead development of American Express’ overall enterprise strategy with the digital partners.
  • Build and develop key relationships with the partners to enhance the partnership.  Act as a primary point of contact for the enterprise.
  • Lead all major enterprise negotiations in close partnership with key internal stakeholders
  • Work closely with colleagues in various teams across multiple business units to identify and deliver new opportunities and manage partner issues.  Key internal stakeholders include:  merchant services, digital labs, digital acquisition and customer marketing, global brand advertising, commercial services.
  • Lead enterprise implementation of the recently announced PayPal partnership.
  • Maintain a consistent pulse on the initiatives and discussions with the partner across the enterprise.
  • Keep abreast of market and competitive trends in the digital space to integrate into the strategic roadmap and relationship management for each partner.
  • Manage a team of two Managers by providing structure, support and development.



  • Significant experience managing external partnership relationships through negotiations, new opportunities and issue resolution.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with and influence internal partners across the enterprise to identify and deliver complex partnership opportunities.
  • Experience with digital products/solutions, advertising, payments and/or customer experiences.
  • Strong strategic thinker who can translate market trends, partner priorities and internal focus areas into actionable strategic roadmaps.
  • A passion for the digital payments &/or advertising space.
  • Strong will to win, attention to detail, focus on efficient management and willingness to roll up your sleeves.
  • Sense of humor and ability to have fun while working hard.
