Enterprise Strategy & Execution (ES&E):
Where solving complex problems is our business.
As an in-house consulting group at American Express, our mission is to be the strategic partner for accelerating growth and enabling the enterprise to put customers first.
The ES&E team focuses on:
  • Developing strategies to support AXP growth and efficiency objectives
  • Engaging with business units to accelerate strategic revenue generation and cost avoidance initiatives
  • Operationalizing large-scale initiatives, working across the enterprise to drive alignment on internal priorities and decisions
Role Description
The seasoned leader will effectively identify and manage 2-3 projects and provide services that bridge thoughtful strategy, detailed planning and disciplined execution to produce sustainable results that meet customer needs.  The role requires effective collaboration with Senior Leaders and Business Partners across American Express.  Additionally, the effective candidate will be able to lead through ambiguity and inspire followership within a matrixed organization.
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Partnering with senior business leaders to devise solutions to complex business challenges
  • Thought leadership/creative problem solving to challenge the status quo and drive progressive improvement
  • Relationship leadership, including ability to develop strong working relationships with business partners across AXP and oversee the development and execution of a portfolio of initiatives
  • Results and change leadership, including leading the planning and management of a diverse set of initiatives that result in achievement of sustainable, transformational results
  • Organizational leadership, including ownership of workstreams to improve our service, customer engagement and operational activities and fostering a spirit of collaboration across teams
  • People leadership, including hiring, developing, and engaging a diverse, high performing and motivated team of professionals


  • Strong knowledge of AXP, with preference for experience in partnerships and strategy development
  • Ability to influence without authority at a senior-leader level and demonstrated track record for driving results and transformation across multiple lines of business
  • Strong consultative and collaborative skills to partner with business leaders to devise solutions to complex business challenges
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and high degree of creativity in identifying opportunities for products, services, new processes and systems
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational change management skills
  • Expert project management skills with proven record of successfully leading and implementing complex, large-scale, cross-functional initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate a large, diverse team
  • Previous management consulting experience, client management or advisory services experience preferred
  • MBA or equivalent preferred

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
