This is a great opportunity to join the Cornerstone Platform Engineering organization within American Express Technologies. This group is nimble and creative with the power to shape our technology and product roadmap. The position is specifically within the Cornerstone real time platform team and we are looking for a highly hands-on Engineer I. The dynamic and self-motivated engineer will be part of the core Platform Engineering Team and will be leading and driving multiple platform initiatives. You will be part of the fast-paced, entrepreneurial team that focuses on enabling real time insights and analytics, stream processing and compute, real time events and triggers, API’s and micro services leveraging transformative technologies (Java, Python, Spark, Kafka, Hadoop & NoSQL Databases) to deliver innovative solutions across multiple Business Units.

Qualifications: This high energy Engineer must have:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of software engineering experience
  •  Hands on experience – Java/Python/Spark
  •  Demonstrated experience in large scale data transformation and messaging platform such as Kafka. 
  • Experience with Streaming API.
  • Demonstrated substantial experience with object-oriented design and programming (Java preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience with test driven development methodology
  •  Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MapR-DB(HBase), Solr, Redis, Elastic Search, Couchbase etc.
  • Experience designing and developing REST APIs for high volume clients
  • Substantial experience with Agile or other rapid application development methods
  •  Demonstrated experience with continuous integration tools such as Jenkins
  • Demonstrated experience with automated build and test frameworks
  •  Experience with container technology, such as Docker, a plus
  • Experience with software development and collaboration tools (Bitbucket JIRA, Confluence, etc.), a plus
  • Experience with Git a plus
  •  A proven hunger to learn new technologies and translate them into working software
  • Ability to effectively communicate to internal and external business partners on solution design
  • Knowledge of payments industry is a plus
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Strong work ethic with good time management with ability to work with diverse teams and lead meetings
  •  Experience collaborating with the business to drive requirements/Agile story analysis
  • Ability to effectively interpret technical and business objectives and challenges, and articulate solutions
