Global Merchant Services Marketing is dedicated to bringing buyers and sellers together and transforming how American Express is welcomed. GMS Marketing is responsible for partnering with GMS markets to drive profitable growth, accelerate coverage and enhance the value of Amex acceptance to merchants and Card Members at scale. We focus on enhancing our relationships with millions of merchants of all shapes and sizes, and our geographic purview includes many commerce hubs across the globe including the U.S, Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
It is also critical for GMS Marketing to collaborate effectively with Card Issuing teams and other sister organizations across the Blue Box in order to fully harness the power of the closed loop via mediums including Custom Consulting, Offers, Recommendations, Multi-Merchant Campaigns, Digital Experiences and Brand Awareness. GMS Marketing partners with organizations including Client Management, Marketing Operations, Information Management, Enterprise Digital, Global Advertising and Brand Management and Global Servicing Network.
The Manager/Senior Manager, Strategy and Business Planning will play a critical role in supporting the VP of U.S. Merchant Marketing and the broader leadership team in a range of projects, while also contributing to overall business planning, team management and strategic development of the business.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the U.S. Merchant Marketing leadership team and will report directly to the VP of U.S. Merchant Marketing. She / he will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of strategic, communications and analytical initiatives to help ensure the business objectives are attained.
The role is ideal for someone with the ability to manage projects simultaneously and establish a collaborative partnership across the Blue Box, while immersing themselves in the complexity of the business.
The role is responsible for:
  • Conducting analysis, sharing insights and making recommendations to the leadership team on important business decisions, ensuring effective communication and implementation, while aligning with key stakeholders in the organization;
  • Taking full ownership of strategic projects and processes supporting the GMS Marketing team;
  • Acting as the central point of contact to the VP/Directors and other colleagues within the U.S. Merchant Marketing team to ensure effective communication flow as well as to coordinate input from senior managers on key business and employee updates;
  • Supporting the VP with management and administration of yearly processes (goal setting, scorecard management, year-end performance reviews, talent assessments, investment planning, and business planning);
  • Managing meeting content and presentations, including updates to senior business leaders, Town Halls and regular business unit reviews. Particular emphasis on creating effective/impactful presentations to summarize complex ideas and recommendations;
  • Building partnerships across the Blue Box and acting as a key interface for business partners;
  • Owning and managing the USMM Opex and A&P budget – ensuring accuracy of reporting, correct utilization of funds, and escalating and resolving any issues in coordination with Finance business partners.

  • Excellent communications skills with emphasis on confidence and composure required to effectively communication to senior leaders;
  • Strong strategic and intellectual capability combined with creative/innovative thinking;
  • Proven financial and commercial acumen with experience of considering business data into clear insights;
  • Be a highly motivated self-starter who is able to provide strategic thought leadership and lead multiple projects with limited guidance.
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
