Director, Digital Payments Business Development & Partnership Management

 

The Amex Digital Labs team is responsible for catalyzing digital innovation at Amex by originating, incubating and managing emerging products and platforms that can be essential to our customers’ digital lives. We strive to emphasize creativity, customer centricity, and innovation. Our growing suite of products includes: digital membership engagement in Amex and partner channels, mobile wallets, wearables, internet of things and tokenization initiatives with merchants.

 

The Digital Payments & Partnerships team is responsible for driving product and program strategy, operations, and partnerships to promote digital spend and membership. This Director will lead a team to build and scale our digital payment products with new partners, manage existing partner relationships and develop the go-market strategy for driving awareness and adoption.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end business development for Digital Payment opportunities.  This includes identify new business opportunities, business case development, contract negotiations, partner on-boarding by collaborating with cross functional teams across Client Management, Product, Program Management, Technology, Network, and Marketing.
  • Lead the ongoing management to drive growth and optimization of various digital payment products (i.e. Mobile Wallets, Tokenization, Remote Payments, etc.), including partnership management, operational efficiency, product adoption, Marketing, Reporting and Financial Management by collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage the relationships with partners and merchants to drive growth across the various payment portfolios (i.e. Mobile Wallets, Tokenization, Remote Payments, etc).
  • Partnering with Product, Issuer, Merchant Services and Network to develop global digital payment strategies that drive American Express digital payments innovation; develop go-to-market plans and implement long-term strategies for success. 
  • Keep abreast of the digital payments landscape to identify new partnership opportunities that can bring American Express to life in unique ways and drive the strategic roadmap of existing partnerships
  • Partner with Advertising and Marketing to develop and implement holistic plans aimed to drive awareness and usage .
  • Lead Product Enablement and Operations to bring new payment products and features of existing products to market, partnering with Operational Excellence, GCO, Privacy, the Bank, Servicing and other internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge and/or passion for the digital landscape, with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Creative, strategic, risk-taking thinker and results-oriented leader willing to challenge the status quo in order to be flexible and effectively compete and differentiate in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess business needs, identify solutions and strong analytical skills to model customer adoption and usage, assess financial and business impact of partnerships
  • Ability to influence and build strong relationships with internal and external partners at all levels.  Must be a strong collaborator with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to influence and build strong relationships
  • Strong understanding of consumer behavior and digital trends across categories. Desire to work on dynamic, innovative and evolving initiatives in the digital, mobile and alternatives payments space
  • Expertise in mobile and working with technical and product development teams is a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of related work experience
