A commercial leader responsible for:
  • Leading a team of face to face UK based Client Managers who maintain and develop B2B client relationships with a number of primarily UK headquartered strategic merchants covering industries within the Every Day Spend (EDS) sector which includes government, petrol, publishing, supermarkets, telecoms and transportation.
  • Overseeing the UK relationship with a team of Phone Client Managers who phone manage UK B2B clients across a range of industries from the American Express Madrid office.
  • Collectively, these clients have annual American Express spend of many Billions of Pounds per annum.
The role involves:
  • The leadership and development of a team of Client Managers, including identification of training and development needs, coaching and performance management, and improving customer satisfaction.
  • Broadening the depth and breadth of client relationships, including with senior level contacts at key merchants.
  • Meet or exceed performance targets including profitability, margin, revenue, customer penetration and satisfaction.
  • Play a key leadership role across the Global Merchant & Network Services UK business, actively participating in the UK leadership group.

Required skills:

  • Experience in leading an exernal facing commerical team (e.g. client / partner management and/or sales) in pursuit of a range of goal objectives with large, complex organisations. Able to create followership and be a role model for leaders. Ability to train, coach and motivate across differing needs.
  • Understanding of the American Express merchant value proposition coupled with ability to articulate value to merchants. Proven negotiation experience and achievement in this area. Ability to develop relationships at the highest level with key decision makers. Strong sense of commercial acumen and judgement.
  • Superior skills in analysis, communication, presentations and with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to operate effectively in a matrix organisation and to build effective relationships with internal partners and stakeholders.
  • Strong decision maker who is also able to manage through ambiguity.
  • Highly self-motivated, organised and with a track record of meeting tight deadlines.
