Job Description

The US Verticals Strategy team is dedicated to identifying, developing and launching the next set of industry verticals for the US Large Market/Global Client Group teams within the Global Commercial Services (GCS) division.  The Manager, US Verticals Strategy will develop strategies, tools and resources to optimize our ability to become the leading payments and working capital provider.  The successful candidate will support the creation and differentiation of American Express value through industry, competitive and customer insights and solutions.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Support the development of new industry verticals through market research, data insights and business analytics
  • Develop and implement new vertical launch strategies to the American Express field and prospective customers
  • Evaluate success of existing vertical focus areas to identify and deploy additional opportunities
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources to gather data, insights and  uncover opportunities in line with the GCS growth strategy
  • Lead all aspects of planning with sound business recommendations and generate alignment with key business partners
  • Monitor progress and regularly communicate with key stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Strategic thinker with experience creating clarity for self and colleagues in a white space environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop solutions to business problems and work collaboratively with cross functional partners to translate strategy into results
  • Advanced analytical skills to bring concepts to life through data
  • Self-starter with the ability to influence upwards and across functions
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-rounded payment product knowledge
  • Strong understanding of internal /external trends, market dynamics and competitive landscape
  • Commitment towards customer focused design
  • Previous experience in consulting and/or accounting a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred
