Financial Analyst/ Senior Financial Analyst - Derivatives and Hedging – Global Treasury Controllership (GTC) is part of the American Express Global Controllership Organization. GTC provides accounting and reporting support to the Company’s Treasury functions including derivative transactions aimed at managing risk exposure to Foreign Currency and Interest Rates.
 
This Derivatives and Hedging analyst role supports the Manager – Derivatives and Hedging and is responsible for preparing reports and supporting analysis for use by management and external reporting.  The individual will be responsible for ensuring appropriate and consistent accounting and reporting for the Company’s interest rate swap portfolio and FX exposures and associated derivative portfolio.
 
Responsibilities
Analysis and Reporting
  • Accounting and reporting for Interest Rate and Foreign Exchange derivative transactions under ASC 815
  • Accounting and reporting for cumulative translation adjustment (CTA)
  • Preparing financial statement footnotes for public filings and statutory requirements
  • Supporting preparation of information for regulatory reporting submissions 
  • Performing detailed analysis and preparing commentary over balance sheet and P&L movements
Business Advisory:
  • Supporting the Company’s Treasury team with new hedging transactions to ensure appropriate accounting and reporting considerations are assessed as part of the transaction review process
  • Supporting interactions with the Company’s Global Accounting Policy and Advisory team and external auditors to support and drive accounting conclusions for new Treasury transactions
  • Building successful relationships with business partners: Treasury, External Reporting, Legal and Tax. 
  • Assisting statutory teams in understanding derivative transaction and movements
Compliance:
  • Maintaining records to comply with internal and external audit requirements
  • Supporting external reporting and compliance efforts
  • Maintaining and updating derivative global accounting policies based on changes in GAAP
  • Professional Account or Finance certifications (CPA, CFA, etc.)

 

Qualifications

Required:
  • 1-3 years experience in Finance or Accounting – Big 4 experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Excellent communication and ability to build relationship with business partners/ stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Positive, flexible and can-do attitude, with robust work ethic and work ownership
Preferred:
  • Working understanding of US GAAP (ASC 815, 820 and 830) and regulatory requirements for Bank Holding Companies
  • Experience in Treasury or Treasury Controllership
  • Professional Account or Finance certifications (CPA, CFA, etc.)
