Job Description

Global Supply Management (GSM) is responsible for helping American Express maximize its purchasing power with third parties. The Strategic Sourcing Manager for Outsourced Services will work in partnership with Business Unit partners, Category Managers, and the Contract Strategy & Execution team to develop sourcing strategy, execute sourcing events, and develop solutions with third parties to maximize value to the company. This role will support a variety of American Express Business Units in the area of outsourced external customer servicing, telemarketing, card manufacturing, statement print and shipping.
 
SUMMARY: Develops sourcing strategies that apply innovative techniques and tools to optimally source goods and services to meet business requirements as per the category plan. Translates sourcing strategies into compelling presentations that serve as the foundation for strategy planning with the internal business clients and lead the clients through the sourcing and negotiation process.
 
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Develop sourcing strategy, execute sourcing events, and develop solutions with suppliers
  • Produce and deliver executive presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint to align with internal clients on source and negotiation strategy
  • Project Manage and lead strategic sourcing process (RFI/RFP/RFQ) for multiple projects in line with the category strategy
  • Develop options, evaluation solutions and construct deals with third parties (with an enterprise mindset)
  • Leverage internal and external insights for most innovative and effective results. (i.e. analytics, benchmarking, etc.)
  • Develop commercial deal framework and total cost of ownership analysis in preparation for supplier negotiations
  • Project manage and lead the negotiation of key business terms and partner with Contract Strategy & Execution team on end-to end negotiation plan and contract execution
  • Build strong partnership with select strategic suppliers
  • Drive operational efficiency and effectiveness in the sourcing process
  • Report savings and value created for each negotiation
  • Ability to travel 5-10%
  • Support a variety of American Express Business Units in the area of outsourced external customer servicing, telemarketing, card manufacturing, statement print and shipping

Qualifications

  • B.S. / B. A. in Business
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant business experience
  • Strong procurement/sourcing process knowledge
  • Strong experience leading and participating on cross-functional and/or global teams
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to be a true business partner and a trusted advisor
  • Deep understanding of the market opportunities and the broader business issues within call center and back office outsourcing, card manufacturing, print and shipping to be able to capitalize on market changes and future trends
  • Excellent skills in communication, negotiation, influencing, planning, presentation and team motivation
  • Collaborative mindset
  • Ability to manage day-to-day business priorities along with long-term strategic deliverables
  • Passion for using analytics to develop insights and recommendations, solve business challenges, improve the customer experience, and drive bottom line results
  • Able to understand cost benefit analysis in Microsoft Excel
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and ability to deal with ambiguity and rapid change
  • Experience with outsourcing customer servicing, telemarketing, card manufacturing, statement print and shipping
