The Card Bonusing Operations (CBO) Team is part of Enterprise Marketing Platforms and Solutions (EMPS) organization within Enterprise Digital and Analytics (EDA).  CBO’s team mission is to actively manage and continuously improve the processes by which merchant data is maintained, governed and used for rewards bonusing. CBO collaborates cross-functionally with enterprise Marketing, Risk Management, Big Data/CRMD, Merchant Services, Finance, World Service, Technology, Legal and Compliance teams to strategize, implement and fulfill on merchant and industry specific marketing products and promotions.  As the business owner of Industry Bonusing and the subject matter experts of these processes, the responsibilities of the team includes:


  • Lead Merchant/Industry Bonusing Category Governance for Card Issuance
  • Implement capabilities and controls to ensure merchant data are properly maintained
  • Research customer complaints pertaining to industry bonusing
  • Conduct research and support the implementation of new and expanded industry categories
  • Define and implement strategic technology solutions
  • Maintain and update customer-facing Rewards Information website
  • Train users on CBO processes

The CBO Team is seeking an Analyst/Sr Analyst to support the maintenance of merchant data and the bonus categories used to bonus Card Members as part of the card value proposition as well as supporting select campaign offers and other programs.  This position will be responsible for the following:


  • Review and validate merchant data feeds from BigData/CRMD and customer inquiries to ensure accurate merchant categorization across all bonus categories
  • Leverage internal and external tools to complete each merchant validation and record findings
  • Maintain process documentation as part of audit and control requirements
  • Perform data analytics, including industry research
  • Identify and implement process controls
  • Provide timely responses to requests from Audit and Operational Risk
  • Support customer remediation efforts on a case by case basis



  • 1+ years of professional/relevant experience is highly desired     
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Powerpoint
  • BA/BS Degree (preferred in Engineering, Management Information System, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or other related four year degree)
  • Self-starter with a natural curiosity to understand how things work
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and cares about quality of work
  • Demonstrated comfort managing large datasets and performing data analytics
  • Experience with conducting research, trend analysis and reporting
  • Ability to operate independently and manage tight timelines
  • Flexible and able to adapt to shifting or changing priorities
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Positive minded team player with ability to see holistic picture that individual and team success are intertwined


Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for this position.
