This role is a Director, HR Business Partner in the SPG & Global Commercial Services team, that will cover a dual portfolio supporting the Strategic Planning Group and the GCS Global Business Financing Product team.
 
The Director HRBP is accountable for leading and executing against the talent, leadership, performance, and change efforts that will enable these teams to meet their goals and drive their respective transformation and growth agendas in support of the AXP Framework for Winning.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
TALENT Leadership:
  • Drive the talent & development strategy for these teams (SPG has a unique recruitment and talent model)
  • Define critical roles and capabilities and align on strategic talent and succession plans
  • Ensure development plans and pathways are in place for Top Talent
  • Ensure attrition and overall health of talent acquisition and retention channels are well-managed
  • Unique to this role: both organizations will have a focus on evolution and growth as  the respective role that each of these functions play (for AXP and GCS) evolves and growth under new (external) senior leadership.
 PERFORMANCE Leadership:
  • Translate strategic outcomes into performance goals
  • Effectively integrate goals and ensure they are cascaded throughout organization
  • Align scorecards to enterprise/corporate scorecards and mission critical partner groups
  • Set and hold a high bar for performance by defining high/low performance and holding leaders accountable to managing their talent against these standards
 CHANGE Leadership:
  • Engage actively in significant organizational effectiveness and change efforts, serving as the expert in how change is led and sustained
  • Ensure the organization works as designed, has a culture to support agility and develops resilient leaders who can lead, manage, and sustain change
  • Expertise in how change is led and sustained across complex organizations; HRBP should have demonstrated experience leading significant change efforts
  • Strong pulse on the external marketplace and internal best practices
  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with senior leadership, business partners and across HR
  • Expertise in creating and executing Human Capital Plans and driving HR agendas in support of business objectives
  • Ability to deliver on the talent, performance and change leadership imperatives outlined above
  • Ability to serve as an active participant in defining business strategy
  • Global and/or international experience
  • Demonstrated business acumen

Qualifications

  • Understand HR’s role in driving organization performance and the strategic questions facing it
  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with senior leadership, business partners and across HR
  • Experience setting and implementing innovative strategies and initiatives across a variety of HR disciplines, as well as through consultation and coaching
  • Expertise in creating and executing Human Capital Plans and driving HR agendas in support of business objectives
  • Experience leading talent efforts to strengthen business capabilities and develop future leaders
  • Ability to coach and influence leadership and navigate difficult conversations
  • Strong pulse on the external marketplace and internal best practices
  • Expertise in how change is led and sustained across complex organizations
  • Understands and demonstrates our HR Performance Amplifiers (Courage, Adaptability, Insight, Curiosity and Authenticity) and HRBP Functional Competencies (Business Acumen, Change Management, Strategic Talent Mindset, Coaching the Business and Complex Problem Solving)
  • Minimum 5-7 years HRBP experience in HRBP related disciplines including but not limited to experience and understanding of consulting, coaching, talent, performance, leadership and change management.
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
 
Finally, this person will be a core member of the SPG & GCS HRBP team and a key partner in support of the overall Human Capital Plans in 2019.
