Global Merchant Services is dedicated to bringing buyers and sellers together and transforming how American Express is welcomed. GMS Marketing is responsible for partnering with local markets to drive profitable growth, accelerate coverage and enhance the value of Amex acceptance to merchants and Card Members at scale. We focus on enhancing our relationships with millions of merchants of all shapes and sizes, and our geographic purview includes many commerce hubs across the globe including the U.S, Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

 

It is also critical for GMS Marketing to collaborate effectively with Card Issuing teams and other organizations across the Blue Box to fully harness the power of the closed loop via mediums including Custom Consulting, Offers, Recommendations, Multi-Merchant Campaigns, Digital Experiences and Brand Awareness. GMS Marketing partners with organizations including Client Management, Enterprise Marketing Platforms & Solutions, Information Management, Consumer and Corporate Issuer teams, Enterprise Digital & Analytics, Global Advertising and Brand Management and Global Servicing Network.

 

The Director, Strategy and Business Planning, will directly support the Senior Vice President, Global Merchant Services Marketing. This Director will act as the chief of staff supporting strategic planning, executive communications, GMS Marketing processes and organizational needs for a team of 300 people. This position will provide a unique perspective on driving growth through transformation and a great opportunity to interact with senior leaders from across the Blue Box. The role is ideal for someone with the ability to manage projects simultaneously and establish a collaborative partnership across the Blue Box, whilst immersing themselves in the complexity of the business.


 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead GMS-Marketing process for key activities such as annual goal setting, development planning and reviews, talent assessments, annual performance reviews (PMP), financial budgeting, Leadership Team meetings, employee engagement initiatives and organization reviews.

  • Provide strategic and analytical support for business planning initiatives such as SQP and Business Unit Reviews.

  • Support strategy presentations and progress reviews with senior leaders.

  • Act as the central point of contact to the VPs, Directors and other colleagues within the direct team and partner teams to ensure effective communication flow as well as to coordinate input on key business and employee updates.

  • Lead and attend domestic and international market visits / reviews.

  • Manage meeting content and presentations, including updates to senior business leaders, Town Halls and regular business unit reviews. Particular emphasis on creating effective/impactful presentations to summarize complex ideas and recommendations.

  • Collaborate with the GMS Marketing Leadership Team, Finance, Human Resources, Corporate Affairs & Communications, GMS Market GMs, SP&O and other teams on key initiatives.

  • Take full ownership of strategic projects and processes supporting the GMS Marketing team, and coordinate with the GMS Executive Office on important business deliverables.

  • Work closely with Finance to gather key metrics for internal presentations or planning purposes and own regular review of Controllable Opex and A&P to ensure yearly targets are met.

  • Strong sense of integrity with ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain complete confidentiality
