Global Business Financing (GBF) operates as a Fintech within the broader commercial business, offering a suite of innovative, non-card lending solutions for small and mid-sized businesses. GBF is a major strategic investment for American Express and is expected to accelerate growth. As the largest product in GBF, Merchant Financing will be critical to success in 2019 and beyond. Merchant Financing offers convenient and price-competitive term loans to businesses that accept American Express.
The Product Management team is the general management function for Merchant Financing, responsible for setting strategic priorities, defining the end-to-end customer experience, managing the product roadmap, and overseeing the implementation of key initiatives and features across both technology and business teams.
The Senior Analyst supports the continuous development and growth of Merchant Financing through a varied set of responsibilities, including strategic projects, data analytics, new product development, and customer research. The ideal candidate can navigate ambiguity, manage multiple business priorities, inspire stakeholders and key business partners, and develop creative solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Analyze and define customer and business needs to inform end-to-end product journey and feature UX/UI design
  • Develop and manage release plans for product features
  • Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including Technology, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Servicing, and others to communicate the product vision and align on high-level business needs for product enhancements
  • Collect and maintain customer and market intelligence, including customer & partner needs, market trends and competitive landscape to inform product strategy
  • Become a subject matter expert on customer needs and the broader lending landscape, including developments in the FinTech space;
  • Develop the value proposition and positioning of Merchant Financing, relative to other American Express products and competitors
  • Manage Legal and Compliance review and approval processes for product updates  


  • Strategic, customer-centric, and data-driven thinker with a demonstrated ability to identify customer insights and needs to improve product experience
  • Self-starter who can generate new ideas in white-space and create buy-in for key initiatives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a proven track record of positively collaborating with and influencing partners in a matrixed environment to achieve outcomes
  • Background in digital product management or product development preferred
  • Attention to detail and strong project management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Understanding of B2B, small business payment or lending products preferred
  • Comfort in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment and evolving business demands
