Job Description

The Global Commercial Payments Strategic Alliances team is charged with cultivating new business relationships with industry leading companies that will accelerate our 3-year strategy and vision. This individual will serve as a key member of the partnerships team in GCS tasked with creating and enhancing the value proposition for GCS’s customer base through new product and service offerings, improved distribution, as well as enhanced feature sets to complement the current best in class card and payment service offerings. This individual will play an integral role in defining and developing unique new partnership opportunities to support this objective and work cross-functionally to align the interests across GCS. This role requires an experienced leader with strong relationship management experience. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic partnerships on behalf of GCS that deliver on our Commercial priorities
  • Work cross-functionally and with external partners to solve problems, deliver solutions that are outside of our traditional frameworks of partnership
  • Manage relationship with external partners to craft and deliver on partnership objectives
  • Develop and sell in the deal framework, business case and implementation plan to relevant stakeholders including senior management across GCS
  • Play a lead role in the deal cycle, including contracting and negotiations
  • Manage key internal stakeholders including product and marketing teams across GCS, the Strategic Partnerships team in GMNS, AXP Ventures, etc
  • Own relationships with GCO, Compliance, and other control teams that support new business development initiatives
  • Lead a team of managers across multiple partnership opportunities with varying stakeholders
  • Ensure team is relevant on competitive landscape, emerging technologies/companies and trends impacting our industry
  • Lead updates on strategy development and progress to GCS Senior Management


  • Robust experience working in a business development and partner management capacity
  • Strong thought leadership and intellectual curiosity to proactively identify opportunities, anticipate challenges, and provide creative solutions
  • Deal contract and negotiation experience a strong plus
  • Extreme comfort and experience in operating in white space and driving results
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skill-set; experience in investment banking, strategic consulting, business development or venture capital a plus
  • Superior relationship and influence management skills working with internal and external parties
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to achieve successful results while working in a fast-paced environment with white space
  • Experience in the Commercial/B2B space a plus
  • MBA or equivalent preferred
