Mgr/Sr. Mgr. - Data Governance Oversight
The Data Governance Oversight team within Global Risk, Banking and Compliance (GRBC) is responsible for ensuring that American Express’s most critical data and supporting processes can be trusted for their intended purposes, meet regulatory requirements, and support the development & execution of effective risk management practices.
The incumbent will assess, challenge and monitor the enterprise data governance program and evaluate the effectiveness of data management practices and controls within critical data processes.
Monitoring and continued enhancement of the data governance oversight framework, including development of guidance and procedural documentation.
Development of metrics to continuously monitor and oversee the data governance program and data management practices.
Conduct independent reviews of implemented data governance programs and in-scope critical data processes.
Assess data management practices on critical data processes to drive insights and recommendations for first line teams.
Evaluate evolving regulatory requirements and expectations around data management to assess and challenge scope of enterprise data governance strategy.
Manage findings to closure and escalate issues in accordance with the data governance oversight program.
3 – 6 years’ experience in data gathering and mining, risk management, data governance or other related discipline.
Experience in data-driven analytics, including analyzing structured and unstructured data.
Familiarity with audit practices and applicable regulatory requirements is desirable.
Strong analytical skills required to assess effectiveness of data management practices in both simple and complex business processes.
Strong presentation skills, particularly in the development of compelling and insightful visual support materials.
Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulatory expectations into cohesive structured guidance documentation and produce reports that clearly articulate review objectives, testing/validation strategies and outcomes.
Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to convey intricate concepts clearly and concisely for senior management consumption.
Team player with strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across and at all levels within the organization.
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and drive projects to completion.
Strong Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SAS, SQL, etc.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related area.Why American Express?
