Function Description:
Operational Risk Management is a comprehensive an integrated program. The Operational Excellence team is a key partner to the Enterprise Functions (Finance, HR, GBS, GCO and CA&C) and provides thought leadership to identify, measure, assess, report, monitor and control operational risk exposures facing American Express. It supports business process owners while ensuring all relevant regulatory and legal requirements are met.

A collaborative partnership between a centralized Operational Risk Governance Group (ORGG), subject matter experts (SMEs), business unit partners, and the Operational Excellence teams enables efficient and effective operational risk controls supported by the Company’s Operational Risk Framework. This framework consists of several core components including risk assessment, business and environmental internal control factors and reporting & monitoring.

Purpose of the Role:
The Senior Analyst reports to the Manager, Enterprise Functions Operational Excellence – Reporting and Analytics COE, whose main responsibilities is to provide MIS, analytical support to the Operational Excellence team on PRSAs, Events, CAPs and control rating elements.

Responsibilities:
• Designs, develops, implements and maintains business solutions / reports / dashboards using Excel / VBA / Tableau/ Python.
Responsible for developing advanced analytical solutions for Business Partners.
• Create the annual PRSA oversight Plan and ensuring the milestones are delivered.
• Maintain appropriate governance activities including business unit level oversight committees and operational risk profile and reporting.
• Ensure process activity and governance (controls) is efficient, effective, and aligned with AXP and the BU’s risk tolerance to prevent negative events from occurring.
• Create and monitor appropriate Key Risk Indicators to proactively identify exposures or control weaknesses.
• Understand and monitor Control Rating Elements on a continuous basis and proactively highlight potential impacts / pressure points to the leadership
• Independently liaise, coordinate and collaborate with Business Partners and Relationship Leads in managing Projects
• Act as Subject Matter Expert in reporting and analytics capabilities
• This role may be subject to additional background verification checks

Qualifications

Past Experience:
3+ years of experience in Business Analysis & Analytics
Academic Background:
•A graduate degree in any field is required. However, an MBA or equivalent will be preferred.
Functional Skills/Capabilities:
•Strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills.

Technical Skills/Capabilities:
• Excel & VBA
• Data Visualization tools – Tableau

•Knowledge of statistical analysis programming languages such as Python / R will be additional advantage.

Knowledge of Platforms:
•Advanced Excel / VBA / Tableau Programming experience is a must.
•Knowledge of statistical analysis programming languages such as Python / R will be additional advantage.
•Knowledge of the operational risk framework will be preferred.
