Job Description

The Area Sales Manager key responsibility is to solicit merchants to accept the American Express Card as a form of payment from their customers focusing on B2B sales. This position will identify key merchant prospects within a specified revenue range and implement effective sales strategies and solutions. Sales Manager´s utilize their in-depth knowledge of American Express, the industry and their prospects to provide solutions. Additional responsibilities include: gathering and disseminating marketplace and competitive information, coordinating all internal resources necessary to facilitate each sale, and executing proper account set-up and merchant training.


Successful Sales Manager´s use their prospecting and cold calling skills to identify, filter and qualify leads to effectively manage a pipeline of prospects. They plan strategically, research and are knowledgeable about the industries and markets they call on. They possess strong analytical, organizational, decision-making, negotiation, oral, written and interpersonal skills. Strong financial acumen is also necessary in order to effectively explain the financial and marketing value of product solutions to close sales. Managers of Business Development must also possess the ability to prepare and present formal presentations and use their excellent consultative solution selling skills to ensure long-term relationship building and meet business goals.

  • Strong B2B/B2C sales skills

  • Recent experience working under a sales quota incentive plan is required

  • Confident and skilled at gaining access to decision makers is required

  • Extensive cold calling, prospecting and pipeline management experience is required

  • Must have the ability to build a value proposition through effective probing and understanding of the customer’s business model, in addition to strong presentation/negotiation skills and the ability to build rapport and credibility

  • Excellent financial skills, strong quantitative and analytical skills and the ability to prepare break-even/profitability analysis required in order to leverage value proposition / support proposals

  • Demonstrated experience in building and managing an effective "pipeline" of quality targets

  • Must possess the ability to build and leverage relationships with internal colleagues and support personnel

  • This is a virtual position that requires excellent time management, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently. Virtual office experience a plus!

  • Previous experience presenting formal presentations and strong MS Office skills required

Position will be based in the Madrid.
