Job Description

About the division:

The Internal Audit Group’s (IAG) mission is to help American Express accomplish its objectives and protect organizational value by providing risk-based, independent and objective assurance, advice and insight. IAG achieves this objective through a risk-based audit plan with an enterprise 360° view, which includes a combination of audits, special projects, ongoing monitoring activities, and the validation of Internal Audit and regulatory findings as well as performance of whistleblower, employee relations and/or other investigations.

About the role:

This newly created role will be a founding member of IAG’s Data Driven Audit - Center of Excellence (CoE). The CoE will be responsible for spearheading IAG’s adoption of the Data Driven Audit (DDA) approach to expand audit’s capabilities in making data-informed decisions. DDA is a component of IAG’s key strategic initiative called Audit NextGen, which is a coordinated effort to make IAG as agile and effective as possible through the use of data analytics and audit process automation.

The CoE Audit Director will serve a critical role of identifying analytic opportunities across the audit universe, and coordinating data research across audit, analytic and client teams. This role will have the opportunity to communicate regularly with leaders throughout American Express’ three lines of defense.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong understanding of American Express’ processes, system infrastructure, risk and control framework, and a passion for embracing data-informed decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration with a global team of auditors, data scientists, and business unit colleagues across the company to collectively embrace the evolution of the data driven auditing approach.
  • Setting a strategic vision & tone by assessing audit needs, balancing capabilities against mission critical objectives, researching new methods as needed, and applying best practices across the department.
  • Sustaining a close partnership with the Data Analytics Innovation (DAI) team to develop analytics in a timely and efficient manner that help facilitate the audit process.
  • Establishing prioritization principles and managing a custom analytic engagement pipeline & operational model that drives a consistently high quality analytic product across the broader audit department.
  • Seeking & implementing auditor feedback to continue enhancing our DDA audit methodology and achieving well thought out efficiencies for delivering a high quality data analytic auditing process.
  • Developing the technical skills across the broader IAG in support of data literacy and adoption of data-informed decisions.
