We help Amex organizations around the globe achieve their business objectives by designing and developing world-class technology systems and services for use by both internal and external customers at best-in-class economics, as well as maintaining our systems to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality customer experience.


The CIO office assists the CIO by providing strategic, analytical and operational support to the CIO and the Technology organization. The Director Assistant in the CIO office is a critical member of the team and will be working closely with the VP Chief of Staff and several leaders in the Technology organization to support the CIO office on several high priority and critical deliverables. It is a highly visible, fast paced, high pressure, dynamic environment where quality, clarity and responsiveness are paramount. The office interfaces with all levels of American Express, across Technology and the offices of other Officers of the company, as well as strategically important external partners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for several urgent business issues, initiatives managed by executive office and addressing information requests
  • End-to-end creation of impactful and comprehensive communications/presentations for key business reviews with senior management, CEO and board
  • Support goalsetting and measurement process, Support management of business planning and operational processes driven through the office (e.g. leadership team meetings, cost center management, Business Reviews, Portfolio oversight)
  • Coordinate and facilitate, where required, leadership meetings (direct report meetings, face to face Leadership Meetings)
  • Coordinate office administration and ensure the seamless delivery of Technology and AXP information requests

  • Manage ad hoc special projects

  • Seek out and implement best practices and industry trends which can be leveraged to increase organizational efficiency and quality

  • Actively seek formal and informal feedback from colleagues to ensure maximum colleague engagement and improve leadership effectiveness

  • Create good working relationships across the organization to maximize information sharing, problem solving and idea generation for key business issues

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who is able to provide strategic thought leadership and lead projects with limited guidance. The individual must be composed, organized, culturally aware and a strong communicator who can effectively multitask and prioritize as needs evolve. Additional qualifications include:

  • Proven work experience within areas such as HR, Project Management or Technology

  • Demonstrated project management, organization and planning skills applied in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment

  • Demonstrated ability to drive results, think strategically and globally

  • Passion, energy, personal accountability and a desire to learn and grow as a leader

  • Excellent interpersonal, judgment, communication and follow through skills

  • Solid analytical and financial acumen

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to take complex technical information and translate it into clear communications (presentations/memos) for a variety of audiences

  • Proven ability to navigate effectively and efficiently within American Express

  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to juggle multiple tasks, with excellent organization skills and careful attention to detail

  • Outstanding interpersonal/ relationship building skills

  • A team player who can build consensus and work across a large and diverse organization

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, work effectively in ambiguous situations, and a willingness to take charge and drive results

  • Active listening skills, summarization skills and lateral thinking to uncover and react to emerging opportunities

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and be flexible when faced with changing priorities

  • Able to deal with confidential information without exception

  • Prior technology experience/knowledge a plus

  • Typically holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or has equivalent work experience)
