Global Merchant Services Marketing is dedicated to bringing buyers and sellers together and transforming how American Express is welcomed. GMS Marketing is responsible for partnering with GMS markets to drive profitable growth, accelerate coverage and enhance the value of Amex acceptance to merchants and Card Members at scale. We focus on enhancing our relationships with millions of merchants of all shapes and sizes, and our geographic purview includes many commerce hubs across the globe including the U.S, Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

In Global Merchant Interactive, we provide the digital tools, insights and support to help Merchants of all sizes manage every aspect of their American Express relationship securely and efficiently in order to foster business growth and encourage warm and welcome acceptance.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Digital Data Strategy & Analysis. A core member of a high-performing digital analytics team, this person will advocate for effective and efficient data collection, empowering our analytics team to solve real business problems. The Senior Manager will also have the opportunity to conduct deep-level analyses, bringing together data from disparate sources to form a cohesive view of our customers and make impactful recommendations. 

This role is an opportunity to work with a small, agile team while drawing on the immense resources and knowledge available within American Express.

Core responsibilities

Evolve Merchant Interactive data capability to best-in-class (70%)

  • Design, champion data strategy roadmap for Merchant Interactive
  • Act as clickstream data SME for MI analytics teams, consulting on data collection requirements and solution
  • Advocate for data integrity, including developing and maintaining data quality scorecard
  • Drive adoption of new methodologies and tools throughout Merchant Interactive
  • Build highly collaborative relationships with American Express data platform and analytics teams, bringing advanced capabilities from around the enterprise to Merchant Interactive

Develop forward-looking analyses and insights, motivating stakeholder action (30%)

  • Engage with diverse stakeholders to determine the most meaningful questions to ask of our online and offline data
  • Leverage advanced analysis to provide actionable insights and critical learnings about our customers
  • Communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the business


  • Deep expertise in data collection and reporting is required;  Adobe Analytics experience is highly preferred
  • Experience in SAS, SQL and/or HQL (Hive Query Language)
  • Demonstrated track record of providing insights that result in action by partner teams
  • Patience, with a focus on medium to long-term planning and outcomes while delivering short-term wins
  • Creativity and curiosity, with an appetite to learn
  • Excellent listening and communication skills; able to forge constructive relationships with partners of varying technical backgrounds
  • Ability to operate effectively under changing conditions and rigorously prioritize initiatives based on business objectives
