The Global Merchant & Network Services (GM&NS) business unit manages relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express.  Within GM&NS, the B2B Strategy & Enablement team is working to transform the value that American Express delivers to our merchants by partnering across the company to grow B2B – a key priority for American Express.  


The Senior Manager of B2B Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for providing thought leadership and an external perspective on the most critical strategic initiatives and pressing challenges facing the Merchant business.  In this role, (s)he will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with senior leadership on diverse and challenging work and will have the opportunity to see the impact of these solutions on the business.  As part of the role, (s)he will conduct research and analysis, develop a strategic diagnosis, deliver sound recommendations for a practical, actionable path forward, and help oversee the execution of the recommendations as needed.




  • Own project workstreams end-to-end from scoping to problem structuring, analysis, and presentation

  • Lead complex analysis and rigorous research to develop insights and solutions to the business’ most critical strategic priorities

  • Access subject matter experts and perform internal and external research to inform different recommendations

  • Synthesize learnings to create high-quality recommendations for the business

  • Engage across the leadership team to develop and present solutions, and provide thought partnership and strategic counsel

  • Collaborate with and influence talented teammates and stakeholders to deliver significant and sustainable results

  • Participate in various committees to build a strong network and team culture





  • Creative strategic thinker complemented by strong business acumen

  • Overall intellectual curiosity and ability to identify opportunities and solve problems

  • Comfort with ambiguity and project-based work

  • Excellent project management skills with sense of urgency for driving projects forward

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize and synthesize a broad set of information

  • Strong analytical skills, including Excel and PowerPoint fluency

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to collaborate effectively in a team and build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior leaders

  • Flexible self-starter who can work with limited supervision

  • Experience from a top strategy consulting firm or internal consulting team preferred; payments industry experience a plus

  • MBA or equivalent preferred

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
