We're looking for an exceptional Senior Database Engineer / DBA to design and develop cutting edge database solutions.   The role will be for a Database designer highly skilled in NoSQL e.g. Cassandra and Couchbase, complemented with other experience on relational databases such as Oracle and Postgres.


Your main role will be the design and development database expert supporting a number of product teams who are developing and building-out large mission critical applications.  This is a customer facing role, working with and alongside  Engineers and Solutions Architects  to design and build out new applications and deploy them.  As such you will need database development skills, embrace being a team player with a collaborative mindset,  and ideally have experience of scrum/Kanban and agile.

You will get to partner closely with talented Product Owners, Architects, and Engineers to define, and execute, the vision and roadmap for some of our most critical platforms and products. 


The Senior Data Engineer's responsibilities include:

  • Setting out the database technology strategy for your portfolio
  • Researching and adopting new  DBMS technologies - finding the right tool for the right job
  • Partnering with Software Engineers to solve application use cases.
  • Designing and building physical database schemas (relational DDL, documents, column families, graphs, etc.) and  optimizing databases for speed, scalability and availability


Required skills:

  • Development experience and hand-on in most of the following: Cassandra, Couchbase, Oracle & Postgres, i.e. NoSQL and Relational.

  • Expertise in configuration, development, and administration of large, mission-critical database environments

  • Demonstrative knowledge and experience in using NoSQL technology for real world application solutions & deployment

  • The ability to match the application needs to the appropriate database technology solution through experience, research and testing from the design phase through to production

  • Strong interpersonal skills (leadership, facilitation, stakeholder management, and presentation)

Knowledge of:  

  • microservice architectures
  • database build automation techniques (e.g. Liquibase, XLR)  and Agile/Scrum/Kanban are advantageous
