Job Description

The position is responsible for:

  • Design, maintain and improve as appropriate the processes managed through third parties on behalf of American Express acquiring business
  • Support American Express merchant business leading the implementation of innovative solutions through external vendors
  • Lead projects to digitize onboarding and maintenance of American Express merchants in Italy interacting as appropriate with third parties and business partners
  • Ensuring high quality processing performance and strict monitoring of impacted SLAs and KPIs
  • Supporting American Express Merchant business leveraging the relationship with third parties (including but not limited to Nexi and SIA) for the projects under his/her responsibility
  • He/she will act as key contact reference for the vendors and business partners on the projects under his/her responsibility

Main responsibilities are:

  • Project Management:
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, manage initiatives and ensure completion within expected timelines for the projects he/she manages
  • Define and organize the project workstreams and working groups granting a continuative coordination
  • Establish business needs and reflect into specific requirements ensuring the delivery by the involved third parties
  • Meet budgetary and timing objectives and make adjustments to project constraints
  • Liaise with American Express, partner stakeholders and vendors (IT, Legal, Compliance, Operation)
  • Manage E2E the relationship with the partners and vendors and coordinate alignment between Amex stakeholder and third parties

Business Development:

  • Identify new potential vendors to provide valuable solutions and processes supporting American Express Merchant business
  • Liaise with new potential partners to pursue new business opportunities (PSPs, Terminal Handlers)
  • Understand payments market trends (i.e., new client onboarding models) and identify new business opportunities in American Express Merchant business
  • Liaise with international functional teams to ensure continuous alignment and best practice sharing 


  • University degree preferably with major subject engineering or economics

  • Excellent Project Management skills (at least 2/3 years experience)

  • Excellent Relationship Management skills (at least 2 years experience)

  • Deep understanding of the merchant acquiring, processing and servicing business

  • Proven knowledge of financial metrics in payments industry

  • Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational, planning and presentation skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to leverages relationships with external and internal clients/partners at all level

  • Strategic thinker: able to both see the big picture and to focus on execution details

  • Ability to work in autonomy and prioritize effectively to meet tight deadlines

  • Flexibility and adaptability in dealing effectively with changing business environment;

  • Fluent Italian and English, spoken and written

  • Availability to travel
