We are looking for a high performing and enthusiastic Java Engineer to join our Loyalty Technology Team at American Express in Burgess Hill. Over the past 2 years we have begun transforming our technology platforms towards a Microservice style architecture and are looking for the right candidate to help iaccelerate that transformation.


The Loyalty Programs including Membership Rewards are a key Brand differentiator for American Express, which we are continuously enhancing to stayahead of the competition. This role will partner closely with our product owners within collaborative scrum teams, in an environment that values interesting technical challenges, using best practice design approaches and prioritises your professional development.


Responsibilities:

  • As a member of an agile team you will be contributing to software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation), specifically….

  • Contributing to high quality, testable code and meeting high test coverage of the code base.

  • Particpating in code reviews as well as aligning to and demonstrating development standards / best practices as part of the  team

  • Analysing and estimating user stories, interpreting acceptance criteria and building software that exceeds expectations

  • Working closely with Product Owner and QEs to ensure story design and delivery meet Acceptance Criteria as well as platform SLAs

  • Actively contributing to team ceremonies and being equally accountable for sprint commitments

  • Being a team player and stepping out of role where required to facilitate team success

Qualifications

  • Creating, enhancing and refactoring Java EE software

  • Experience in utilizing continuous integration, orchestration, and delivery tool chains, including test automation frameworks

  • Experience of build and version control tools such as Maven, Jenkins, Git (including branching and merging strategies)

  • Experience with using unit testing frameworks such as JUnit

  • Developing and consuming APIs (REST/SOAP etc)

  • Good problem solving skills and a desire to learn through experience

  • Excellent collaboration in a team environment

  • Willing to embrace Agile Engineering practices

  • Knowledge or Experience in TDD and BDD

  • University Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related experience required
