Employee Relations Case Manager

Job Description

American Express Australia is seeking an experienced ER professional to join our team based in Sydney, supporting our Australian and New Zealand markets. This role joins a close-knit team of ER practitioners who support and coach leaders to effectively manage people matters, build leadership capability and drive commercial outcomes in the context of our strong values driven culture.

Reporting to the ER Manager and working within the Human Resources team you will be responsible for:
  • Partnering directly with business leaders to effectively manage the end to end resolution of people matters, including performance improvement, conduct management, absenteeism and medical cases, grievances and investigations
  • Effectively coaching and influencing business leaders and other stakeholders through case management to reach the right outcome, balancing commercial objectives, the employee experience and risk evaluation
  • Leading workplace investigations and the resolution of workplace grievances
  • Providing expert advice to leaders, employees and other stakeholders in the review and interpretation of employment legislation, modern awards, employment contracts and company policies
  • Supporting organizational change initiatives, advising on legal requirements and supporting implementation and change management activities
  • Providing specialist expertise, coaching and advice to the broader HR team in people related matters
  • Reviewing and updating Employee Relations policies and procedures
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of training sessions to build leader capability

Qualifications

To be considered for this position you must have:
  • Passion and motivation to optimize the employment relationship between colleagues and American Express and deliver an exceptional partnership experience
  • At least 2 years’ experience in an Employee Relations role with demonstrated experience in case management, including workplace investigations and grievance resolution
  • Solid understanding of the Australia and New Zealand industrial relations and employment law frameworks
  • Strong problem-solving ability, coupled with a pragmatic and commercial approach
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and effectively partner, influence and negotiate with leaders and stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to work in a fast paced, small team environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities
