The General Counsel’s Office (GCO) is the in-house legal department for American Express. The London GCO is the central headquarters for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA region) and consists of approximately 55 lawyers, legal staff and contractors plus 7 EA's. The GCO Employment Law Group and Litigation teams are part of the structure of the London GCO.

The Employment team is comprised of 4 permanent staff (1 VP and 3 Directors; 2 of which are located in India and Asia-Pac) and the Litigation team is comprised of 4 permanent staff (1 Director, 2 Associate Counsel and 1 Paralegal). Both teams support the International region and report into New York.

This position is the Executive Assistant (EA) to the VP that heads up the Employment team within the GCO and also provides administrative support to the other permanent staff in the Employment and Litigation teams.

  • Experience supporting senior-level executives

  • Active management of diaries in varied time zones

  • Review and submit monthly expense report

  • Preparing travel reservation and itineraries

  • Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with the utmost discretion

  • Excellent organisational skills with a strong focus on attention to detail and flawless execution

  • Time management skills: managing multiple tasks within short time frames and with minimal supervision

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Existing proficiency in Microsoft Office software products including Internet, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Develop proficiency in internal systems including Ariba, Concur, Peoplesoft and Serengeti/Legal Tracker

  • Good standard in GCSE English & Maths or equivalent

  • Familiarity with domestic and international travel, and awareness of issues to be provided for when compiling itineraries

  • Ability to multi-task and flexibility to re-prioritize in a changing and fast paced environment

  • Conduct self in a courteous, helpful and professional manner as a representative of the GCO

  • Proven ability to maintain good working relationships with people internally and externally at all levels
