The Cross Border Payments (CBP) team is part of Amex Global Commercial Services and is responsible for a cloud-based, highly available platform enabling international foreign exchange transactions for global commercial clients.
We are establishing teams in our new London office, very close to Victoria, to build world-class technology as part of the CBP product. They will be responsible for developing and delivering some of the core functionalities for our new system, building the foundations of a platform targeting millions of American Express users and supporting the roll out of brand new components and functions.
What are we looking for?
A Senior Engineer with a wealth of experience leading a scrum team, a role model that will pursue technical excellence and establish great engineering practices.
What will you do?
Your first mission will be to design and build the orchestration layer between our front-end product and multiple external/internal systems for processing financial transactions. Day to day, you will:
Build scalable services and components using modern JVM languages
Write functional code in an event driven architecture
Develop code that integrates with our partners to process financial transactions
Mentor and grow your team
Participate in agile ceremonies
Be a key part of the senior engineers group defining technical strategy and the architectural roadmap
What you will need:
A proactive mind-set and the drive to lead and mentor you colleagues
Hands on knowledge in architecting and orchestrating a complex integration-heavy system
Be keen to learn new technologies and be able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical colleagues
Experience of intricacies of the financial industry or other highly regulated industries
You are conversant with RESTful web service design, Kafka, JMS or other messaging technologies.
Expertise with the JVM (e.g. Java, Kotlin, Scala, etc.)
To have worked with Spring, relational databases, cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines
It would be great if
You have experience with multiple JVM languages, functional programming, asynchronous programming, the concepts of clean code
An understanding of product development concepts, e.g. minimum viable product, design sprints, prototyping, A/B testing, etc.
You strive to automate systems, improve reliability and challenge processes with the goal of continuous improvement

- Significant software development experience
