Technical Project Manager – One Amex
Who we are?
The American Express One Amex team is looking for technical project managers with experience planning, coordinating and execution within a team building keystone infrastructure for the company. The organization is embarking on a transformation to cloud based technology and looking to experienced managers to help build a truly global and innovative platform.
The One Amex ecosystem is a truly disruptive part of the engineering organization and is driving adoption of cutting-edge technologies and techniques. We are looking to build small but high performant teams within this to solve complex challenges, using an imbued DevOps culture of heavy automation and continuous deployment.
Working within the One Infrastructure unit of the team, you’ll have opportunity to plan and coordinate complex multi-stream work that involves collaborating with colleagues all over the world. Drawing on your experience and high technical acumen you’ll help to schedule infrastructure and DevOps product releases by assimilating requirements into high fidelity technical milestones for the team to deliver.
As a beacon for change within the engineering organization, a critical current project is to modernize platform infrastructure to embrace container orchestration across hybrid cloud solutions. Joining at the ground floor you’ll have opportunity to help shape the way we work. Become a linchpin within the team as we deliver this large-scale organizational capability in conjunction with using DevOps practices to empower product engineering teams consuming both the platform and other parts of the One Amex ecosystem.
Determine clear deliverables, roles and responsibilities for colleagues required for specific projects or initiatives. Working daily with the team to ensure tasks are actively progressing towards milestones.
Navigate the organization to draw together teams to collaborate on project objectives.
Have a strong sense of personal accountability and influence the team to take ownership of commitments.
Be a natural communicator and capable of working with geographically diverse colleagues to collaborate on issues between teams and subject matter domains.
Actively plan towards regular program increments and hold appropriate team rituals to align for successful delivery.
Develop tribal knowledge into documented repositories and grow team culture.
Cultivate relationships with stakeholders, evangelize the team mission and iterate on operating model to continuously improve.
Offer of employment with American Express is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background verification check, subject to applicable laws and regulations.
A demonstrable engineering background with strong familiarity of Linux and Cloud platforms.
Understanding of DevOps and commercial experience working with DevOps/SRE in either centralized or distributed models.
Familiarity of cloud infrastructure providers (AWS/GCP).
Working knowledge of at least one programming language.
Experienced using Atlassian product suite.
Strong Agile experience with a drive to coach others.
