The GCS Controllership Manager, as the primary point of contact for business partners, provides technical and operational accounting guidance and thought leadership on key deals and initiatives in line with GCS’s strategic priorities.


The role involves developing and sustaining impactful relationships with multiple stakeholders and provides excellent exposure to a diverse and talented team of controllership professionals that support a broad array of American Express businesses and services.


The position reports to the GCS Controllership Director and will be responsible for leading and developing one analyst.


What Type of Work Will You Do?

  • Provide accounting guidance on contractual financial terms during the deal negotiation process in accordance with US GAAP and American Express accounting policies

  • Collaborate with multiple business partners during the new product development phase to determine accounting implications and requirements

  • Partner with functional areas of Controllership and Finance to determine operational feasibility and efficiently embed accounting processes

  • Conduct Post Implementation Reviews and, where appropriate, identify opportunities to improve the financial control environment

  • Assist, and at times manage, transformational projects and other initiatives as required.

Minimum Qualifications


What We Are Looking For?


  • Qualified accountant/MBA, or equivalent experience
  • Good understanding and application of US GAAP (desirable)
  • Ability to articulate accounting concepts to a variety of audiences, many with minimal accounting knowledge
  • Affinity for developing and maintaining collaborative relationships
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to generate action, influence decisions with limited authority and manage expectations
  • Adopts a digital mindset, striving for technology and automation solutions
  • Excellent numeracy, written and verbal communication skills
