The Global Merchant Services (GMS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express’ revenue: Merchant Discount Revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the optimal pricing to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, we drive GMS revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, more flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions
The Manager/Senior Manager of Global Insights and Strategy is responsible for providing competitive pricing analysis to be used in merchant negotiations as well as develop subject matter expertise in competitive pricing practices and trends. This global role provides a unique opportunity to have impact across multiple businesses and geographies.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain a global, best in class view of competitive network and acquirer pricing through research, analysis and modeling
  • Create compelling, merchant facing materials for all regions, which articulate and quantify the American Express value proposition      
  • Develop subject matter expertise on competitive pricing practices and trends, monitor and disseminate changes in payments industry and analyze business and account level impact
  • Develop innovative ways to articulate and quantify the value American Express delivers to merchants
  • Partner closely with Client Management teams to provide strategic and analytical support on negotiations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years experience in financial services industry, payments, and/or other finance related roles, 4+ years of experience is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree is required. MBA is a plus
  • Excellent strategic thought leadership and comfort working with unstructured problems
  • Proactive nature with close attention to detail and solid project management skills
  • A passion for high quality and responsiveness to internal customers
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, which places a premium on driving results
  • Creative thinker who is willing to question traditional ways of doing things and develop new approaches to old challenges
  • Strong project management skills with full ownership from analysis through to implementation
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral -- with experience leading discussions with Senior Leaders where decisions need to be made based on the facts presented
  • Strong aptitude for analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-added insights from large amounts of data
