The Loyalty & Benefits Platform is part of the Enterprise Platforms Center of Excellence where product and engineering resources were brought together to improve speed to market and further unlock value across core capabilities. It serves a broad set of products and solutions that require close collaboration with colleagues who develop new card products, digital channels, marketing operations, membership rewards, co-brand programs, card benefits, insurance, analytics, operations excellence and servicing. 

Aligning to AXP’s framework for winning, we are creating the world’s best loyalty & benefit experiences for our customers with a team of passionate software product talent using agile practices to build highly available, nimble, extensible and modern applications.  We are looking for an experienced Sr. Product Manager to lead the transformation of an integral component of our Loyalty Finance capabilities and to spearhead the Data Publishing strategy, as our data is at the heart of everything we do at American Express. Ensuring Loyalty data consistent publishing, accuracy and timeliness is essential for our accounting and finance processes and reporting, and is required to support data insights, product development and marketing needs.

This role will develop a deep understanding of the Loyalty business, our consumer needs, and develop a strategy for capabilities within a new platform. You will then develop that strategy and define requirements, writing user stories and deliver software with high stability in a very high-volume transaction environment.  We are looking for someone with good business acumen and solid technical skills. Ideal candidates will have worked as a software engineer previously, and is comfortable operating in scrum format, supporting multiple engineering teams, aligning with other Product Managers, Project Managers, and Engineers to prioritize the backlog, develop user stories, and collaborate to deliver on Loyalty initiatives. 

As the Global Data Publishing Product Manager, you'll be collaborating with business partners to shape the our data publishing strategy, drive the Product Roadmap for R-42 Finance team, articulate outcomes and expectations, lead requirement refinement meetings, tie initiatives to key metrics and partner with platform product managers to prioritize data publishing work across various team backlogs.  You will be responsible for product decisions, release planning and leading engineers to deliver user experiences, operational processes and supporting technology assets based on stakeholder needs.  You'll evaluate early stage business concepts, drive definition of Minimum Viable Product, and create detailed features for the product backlog to ensure delivery of consistently high-quality product. You will weigh in these business asks against technical feasibility and product roadmap to create high-level implementation plans, assess engineering capacity and help prioritize work against product backlogs.

 

A key part of this role will be to build and foster a culture of agility and Product Management in close partnership with technology and business teams. As a Sr. Product Manager, you will also be expected to grow, mentor, and manage junior Product Owners and assure that their work achieves the desired outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand data publishing efforts across loyalty and benefits platforms, articulate a long-term data publishing strategy & roadmap with clearly defined business targets and drive alignment and execution of this strategy across multiple backlogs.
  • Create capabilities and features to support the Global Data Publishing roadmap.
  • Build and actively manage a Finance capabilities product backlog of features that are groomed and prioritized in close collaboration with the business and engineering teams
  • Translate complex business objectives into features and user stories, working closely with engineering to provide the information required for those teams to successful deliver software products
  • Deep engagement and consultation with various business teams to understand current and future needs
  • Full participation in and support of agile and SAFe practices and ceremonies to reinforce the agile transformation of the delivery team
  • Communicate and build consensus across multiple teams, across the globe, in creating solutions to business needs including leading in-person and virtual meetings
  • Build robust understanding of payment and Loyalty domain
  • Lead and own the delivery of new Loyalty capabilities
  • Create and execute R-42 Finance Roadmap, partnering with Finance and Accounting stakeholders to ensure integrity of American Express Financial reporting.
  • Identify and communicate risks to work that is in-flight, and provide viable alternatives to mitigate those risks
  • Support leadership in developing a platform strategy, in the sizing of development efforts, and PI planning
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of ownership, follow-through, and collaboration by adopting a mindset of doing whatever it takes to make the team successful
  • Understand and internalize the needs of our external, internal and support users
  • Prioritize and maintain the sprint backlog consistent with the Product Roadmap and perform story refinement with the implementation team
  • Review and accept completed user stories and demonstrate sprint-related or general functionality with external stakeholders and customers.
Coordinate communications, escalate and facilitate resolution of risks tied to the product backlog and communicate the efforts of Agile teams deployed across multiple products.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • At least 5 years’ experience in Software Product development and delivering on a product roadmap, ideally in a platform product role.
  • Understanding of building capabilities in a distributed technology stack
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels within organization, internally and externally
  • Experience with agile and scrum software development methodologies
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to consult with various stakeholders and drive to alignment on thorough requirements
  • Superb analytical skills
  • Problem solving, attention to detail, excellent organizational skills
  • Project management skills; ability to prioritize and complete tasks
  • Experience developing enterprise software in multiple countries at a global company desirable
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages is desirable
  • Relational database design and data normalization experience desirable
  • Knowledge of financial services industry and associated products is desirable
  • Bachelor’s Degree desirable; Bachelor’s (or comparable experience) in computer science, engineering or a related technical discipline required
