Job Description

The Vice President of Global Advertising & Brand Management (GABM) Communications will lead the communications team responsible for managing the public profile of American Express’ Chief Marketing Officer and the American Express brand. The mission of the Global Advertising & Brand Management team is to create marketplace demand and drive commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative products, partnerships, and marketing and customer experiences. GABM’s ultimate vision is to be the most creative department in the Fortune 500.

 

The Vice President of Global Advertising & Brand Management Communications will be responsible for building American Express’ brand narrative in support of this mission, and communicating with colleagues, journalists, community groups and other thought leaders. Specifically, we are looking for a seasoned PR professional with a passion for the American Express brand, a deep understanding of the changing media and marketing environment, a collaborative attitude and the ability to think creatively and drive results.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the communications strategy for the American Express Brand and the company’s Chief Marketing Officer.
  • Lead a team of communications experts focused on creating exciting storytelling opportunities across a mix of communications channels; key initiatives include support for Shop Small, Stand for Small and other small business and community initiatives, promoting marketing innovation and diversity & inclusion, promoting the company’s sponsorships and innovative entertainment & access programs.
  • Spearhead external and internal communications for the Global Advertising and Brand Management Group; including writing internal memos, messages, talking points, Q&As, press releases, social posts and visual content.
  • Speech writing on behalf of CMO and management of conferences and speaking engagements for senior leaders across GABM.
  • Take a data-driven approach to communications and measuring impact.
  • Engage GABM colleagues across a variety of innovative channels.
  • Provide counsel to protect and enhance the Brand.
  • Provide support for marketing industry events, thought leadership opportunities, media interviews, social media presence and internal/external appearances. 
  • Remain up-to-date with emerging platforms, trends and best practices across brand marketing, digital marketing and social media, and regularly share your perspective.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience leading communications at a large global brand or media property.
  • You have superior writing skills and attention to detail.
  • You have strong media expertise and relationships
  • You’re an effective leader with excellent judgment and people management skills. People want to work for you and collaborate alongside you.
  • You’re creative and have experience leading and working with agency and creative teams to build effective strategies and campaigns.
  • You have a proven track record for developing and executing programs that have driven tangible results.
  • You know how to package a story, understand the importance of visual elements.
  • You roll up your sleeves and work with a "no task is too small" attitude.
  • You are always thinking "how can we do this better?"
  • You thrive in a fluid environment and can manage multiple priorities and think and act on your feet.
